I get a lot of messages about how my dogs are super expensive. I just want to break it down for those wondering.
I'm going to use Cinder as an example as this is her litter below.
I purchased her in 2023 for $5,000
My dog food bill in 2024 alone was $4,200 roughly 900-1k per dog.
To fully vet a dog their first year is ~100 per vet visit so roughly $400-500 and that's if they have 0 issues. Cinder had an injury at 6 months that we did x-rays on and she also needed some pain meds. That visit was I believe $500 on its own.
Now when she went into heat, I ran multiple progesterone tests on her (thankfully as she was late to ovulate) that cost me over $700.
Stud fees run $1000-5000+ depending on stud.
Now comes delivery day. Do you risk natural whelp and end up having an emergency c-section for 6-7k? Or do you schedule one for around 1200-2500 depending on vet.
I had one scheduled but she went into labor 2 days early.
So to break it down. That's right around $10,000 on the LOW end (easily can hit 20k on high end) before I even have a litter on the ground safe and healthy. Plus, SO much can also go wrong as well. I had 1 pup still born from this litter and we did the c-section as soon as I knew she was in labor.
On average I also spend around $3-4k in supplies to raise the litter from birth to 8 weeks. They start up cost are the worst but maintaining appropriate supplies is still a lot.
So when you add 10k to the 3k it cost to raise them, that is 13,000! If I sold pups for $2k each I wouldn't even make it out of the negative. All this added up does not even count the HOURS of work into put in each and every day. Even when I don't have pups available I have to put in hours of work. Extra cleaning, walking dogs etc. The work I do daily, I would have to pay someone quite a lot to do. My time is also valuable. I have 4 young children and we have a hobby farm that is a lot to up keep and maintain as well.
So please keep this all in mind when you reach out about a pup. I appreciate all my puppy families understanding what all goes into this. If you are finding cheap frenchies... it's not gonna be from a reputable breeder. And every single reputable breeder will tell you the same thing.
This is also why these will be my final planned litters. I may still do another in the future pending interest but I do not have any planned at this time.
Thanks all for reading.
Also to add, I am asking less than I paid for momma and their dad and I co own him...
Photo taken today. They are 6 weeks so only 2 weeks to go!
