Good news/Bad news...
I greatly reduced the number of tracks I've taken on over the past couple years as I was trying to end an extended dry spell in my hunting career. With the help of a few great family members and friends, I was able to end that spell and tag a nice doe during archery season. I'd like to express my most sincere gratitude to my Dad- Rick, my son- Caleb, and my friends/chosen family- Greg, Mason, Joe, Chris, and the rest of the Orange Army. Without each and every one of you guys, I would have given up hunting completely. You have all managed to not only keep me going, but you've all reintroduced me to the love I have for the outdoors. I can't thank you all enough.
Unfortunately, my ace tracker Dora passed away in early December. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing her work knows that she was an amazing tracking hound and loved what she did. There are so many memories I have with her, and hundreds of miles behind her while she was working. There will never be another dog like her. She came from humble beginnings- a hound no one else wanted, so she ended up at a local SPCA. I adopted her from the shelter and we immediately bonded, then became a great team locating and recovering 106 deer in her career before completely retiring after the 2022 season.
I do have another hound, Beau, who shows a lot of potential of being a good tracking hound. I'll be working with him over the spring and summer, and depending on his progress, might be able to take on a limited number of tracks in the 2024 season.
I'll do my best to keep everyone updated on what happens.
