On January 21st, Ricca had to go in for majory surgery. After wonderful care from the staff at Copiah Animal Hospital, Ricca is back on her feet, feeling a lot better and up for some short, low impact heeling sessions.

A Doberman pinscher named Penny won best in show Tuesday night at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, netting U.S. show dogs' most coveted prize.

Penny bested six other finalists at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Each dog is judged according to how closely it matches the ideal for its breed.

The winner came out on top after two days, 2,500 dogs and more than 200 breeds who strutted their stuff at the Westminster Kennel Club.

Ok…update on Sam. We got over to see him on Friday. My initial thought on him is that he’s “rough around the edges”. Sam needs a positive leader that will build his confidence, but not get bullied by him either. He’s a strong dog that gives CLEAR indication through vocalization when he’s NOT happy with a situation whether it’s being kenneled with other dogs or getting leashed up by a total stranger. Sam showed ZERO ball or food drive, but responded nicely to praise. Strong communication skills, steady continuity and the ability to read Sam’s emotions are gonna lead a new owner to success with Sam.

Although he’s neutered and gets along with other dogs in his current pack, he’s gonna need one on one time with a new owner to build a solid relationship. We wouldn’t recommend him being around small kids at all until properly introduced and closely supervised AT ALL TIMES and definitely not around cats or small dogs that could be mistaken as prey.
