Brian Tuel's Dog Training At Your Door specializes in home behavior training for your dog. As the owner and trainer I started in my family dog business in 1970. I owned a boarding and grooming kennel in Grand Rapids, Mi from 1980 through 1993. I also started and operated Invisible Fence-Westland in Rockford, MI from 1987 through 1993. Today we have 6 year old Labradoodle sisters "Tilly and Taylor". Owner Janet Johnson was having trouble walking Tilly without her pulling her to roughly. Now a major problem is when you have this issue and you are using a "harness" this is what happens. Sometimes to the detriment of your personal safety. For my first post in 2025 I wanted to share an email that one of my new training and fence client sent...

Brian.....I'm having a very hard time getting Whiskey to sit when I stop in front of flags. I push his f***y down and say sit and use hand signal. At times he'll eventually sit. Having him lie down is impossible. Once sitting, he isn't paying attention to flags...just looking all over for cats/squirrels. If I remember correctly, you said not to pull on leash to get his attention when in sitting position and the training with flags. I'm at a stand still on this training. Suggestions? 🤔

He's doing well on heel and come while on our walks and "come" indoors. 🌝

My response...

Alpha type dogs will have a resistance to any command that might put them into a weak or submissive position. Persistence will prevail. "Stand" is a command I usually introduce in the last visit however it is just as important. If he stands praise him equally. You are building his trust. Be patient. I always remind everyone "it's a marathon, not a sprint!"

"Whiskey" is a rescue. We do not know his backround. These owners are committed to him.

So...celebrating my 38th year installing In ground Pet fences by PetSafe Brand, "SkyeBell" a 4 month old Golden Doodle got her own personal dog fence this morning. Here in Meadowcrest, a deed restricted community, she learned her yard in about 1/2 hour. Safety, confidence, call today 352-302-6248.
