Day 1 with the flag

There’s no such thing as a bombproof horse. They’re flight animals by nature and there’s nothing we can do to change that. However, we can teach them confidence and relaxation through body awareness and how to appropriately handle pressure. It is never to early or too late to educate your horse on this.

How easy is your horse to handle? As horse owners, it’s our responsibility to do our “homework”. How to stand quietly, pick up their feet, and have basic manners are things we must teach our horses before we have to make a phone call to our vet or farrier. Training beyond the saddle. Training every step of the way.

That is my current focus with Lareina and Riana. Ensuring they can be handled quietly and properly before I have to make an emergency call to my vet. Before they are due for another trim. We are all a team working together for the health and well-being of the horse. We have to do our part too. Do your homework.

Big strides with Riana today! It’s taken her a bit longer to adjust and as a result she has been a bit unsure of me. I’m a huge believer in letting young horses pick the pace in their training, so I let her decide when she is ready. Today was the first day she wanted to hang out with me. Instead of being unsure, she was curious. She even stood quietly while I groomed her. Feeling secure and comfortable in her body is top priority every step of the way in her training.

As far as little Lareina, she’s a rockstar. She’s already learning groundwork patterns and how to pick up her feet. She’s got a strong and spunky personality so she’s an absolute pleasure to work with.
