Hello everyone. I am Nicole Lakich, I started this rescue after seeing how many Bettas were dying in cups, sick and suffering
I can't save them all, but One fish at a time I can.
So, I go to stores looking for the most ill, least likely to survive or be bought, fish. I try to get them surrendered to me, and if not at least heavily discounted, so i at least know the store lost money on them.
Then they go into my hospital tank, with a heater, a couple small plants, and water that is fresh and replaced each day.
Once they are better, they will graduate to a 5.5 gallon tank, complete with a cycled filter, heater, plants, thermometer, light, and substrate. It is at this point they become available for adoption.
To adopt a Betta from Second Scales Sanctuary, you must provide proof you have at minimum 2.5 gallon tank (However I will be biased towards applicants with 5+ gallons). King Bettas must have a 10 gallon.
A cycled filter,
A Heater that reaches a minimum of 78F,
And a good quality food.
I will not adopt out to sororities. Community tanks will be contemplated on a case by case basis.
For a $40 donation, you may have the tank your Betta currently resides in. It will come with everything U mentioned before (excluding the lights)
This option is only available to local areas, or those willing to drive and meet me.
I prefer to only adopt out to local areas (Northwest Indiana) however, if there are no potential adopters in this area, you may pay an additional $20 shipping fee.
