Today, Tena is thankful for her prepared pet parents! 🐾

Ms. Tena is so thankful for the pet parents who come to each session ready to train by:

🐶 Having their dog on a leash before the session begins.

🦴 Putting their dog's training collar on before arrival.

🍗 Bringing their shredded chicken (or other high-value treats) to every session.

These simple things help us jump right into training and make the most of your time together!

Tena the In-Home Dog Trainer working with Riley the Golden Retriever on the skill “Don't Touch!”🐾✨

"Don't Touch" is a valuable skill that teaches your dog to leave something alone when asked. This can help keep them safe if they pick up something they shouldn't have, find food on the ground, or become too interested in another dog or person while out and about.

Teaching your dog to resist temptation and listen even when distractions are present builds self-control, confidence, and strengthens your relationship with them. 🐶❤️

✨ It's What Would Tena Do Wednesday! ✨

Today's question: Would you train a dog to walk off leash? 🐕🐕‍🦺

Tena's answer: NO! 🙅‍♀️

Walking your dog off leash isn't just dangerous—it can also be illegal in many public places. 🚫

While the goal of training is to have a dog that listens and responds reliably both on and off-leash, it's never best practice to walk your dog off-leash in public. A leash gives you the most control in any situation and helps keep your dog safe.

Even the best-trained dogs can become distracted 🤪, startled, or excited and make a poor decision. An off-leash dog can run into traffic, approach an unfriendly dog, or get into a dangerous situation before you have a chance to react. 🫣

That's why it's always best to keep your dog on a leash when out in public. A leashed dog is a protected dog! ✨🐾
