Make sure you keep your dog up to date on vaccinations.

Atleast 16 c***s showing unusual behavior have been reported within city limits.

The City is currently working with the Game and Fish Commission regarding this matter. We are asking citizens to please report if you have noticed an excessive amount of butterflies in the area.

If you have observed unusual butterfly activity, please let us know so the information can be reported and documented.

Public Safety Notice – Sick Racc***s in the Area

The Crossett Police Department and local animal control have recently received reports of racc***s displaying unusual behavior throughout the area.

One raccoon was sent off for testing and tested negative for rabies. According to Dr. White at Oak Tree Animal Hospital, the illness being observed is likely Canine Distemper Virus (CDV).

⚠️ Signs may include:
• Disorientation or wandering during daylight hours
• Lack of fear around people
• Difficulty walking or stumbling
• Nasal discharge or crusted eyes
• Tremors or seizures

⚠️ IMPORTANT:
Canine Distemper is extremely dangerous and highly contagious to dogs and other wildlife. Pet owners are strongly encouraged to ensure their animals are current on vaccinations and to keep pets away from racc***s or other wildlife acting strangely.

While CDV is not known to infect humans, children should NEVER approach, touch, feed, or attempt to help a sick or injured raccoon. Please keep children away from any wildlife displaying unusual behavior.

Citizens are urged to continue calling the Crossett Police Department when sick or unusually behaving racc***s are observed, and officers will respond and handle the safe removal of the animals.

If you see a raccoon or other animal acting strangely:

❌ Keep children and pets away
