Please be kind to that stray animal wandering through your neighborhood.
That dog or cat didn't choose to be homeless. Chances are they were dumped by someone who couldn't be bothered to care for a life they once took responsibility for.
Remember what that animal is experiencing right now:
• Scared and confused, wondering why their family never came back.
• Lonely, with no familiar voice to comfort them.
• Hungry and thirsty, searching for their next meal.
• Possibly injured, sick, or in pain.
• Completely dependent on the kindness of strangers because they have absolutely no way to help themselves.
Yes, helping can be inconvenient. Yes, it can be expensive. Yes, it can be a lot to take on.
But can you imagine if it were a child standing alone on the side of the road? Frightened. Hungry. Lost. Needing help. Most of us wouldn't drive by without doing something.
While an animal isn't a child, they feel fear, pain, hunger, loneliness, and abandonment just the same. They don't understand why they've been left behind. They only know they need help.
Before you honk, yell, chase them away, or complain about them being there, take a moment to see them for what they are—a living creature trying to survive another day.
A little kindness can mean everything. A bowl of water. A little food. A phone call to a rescue. A safe place to rest.
The animal isn't the trash in this situation.
The person who abandoned them is.
Be the reason that frightened animal learns not all humans are the same.
