Paws of Wakulla Our Mission is to prevent cruelty and improve the health, safety and well-being of cats and dogs in W BE A PART OF Paws!

Paws of Wakulla, Inc., previously known as CHAT of Wakulla is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, charitable corporation committed to improving the health, safety, and well-being of cats and dogs in Wakulla County. We are a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our Articles of Incorporation were filed on August 8, 2001. Our roots are in the former Wakulla Humane Soc

iety, an organization that had been active for over 30 years. Paws is a community organization and invites you to become a member if YOU care about:
dogs and cats and their well-being,
the safety of your family and neighbors,
providing input to county and state government,
reuniting lost pets with their owners via Facebook,
educating the public on proper pet ownership,
preventing cruelty to animals, and
Improving the quality of life in Wakulla County.

We are excited to introduce Dana, one of our dedicated Board Members at Paws of Wakulla!

Dana’s lifelong love for animals has been reflected through years of pet ownership, fostering, and helping facilitate pet adoptions. Her passion for animal welfare and helping pets find loving homes naturally led her to Paws of Wakulla in February 2025.
Just a few months later, Dana was honored to be invited to join the board, where she now helps support the mission of Paws through fundraising efforts that directly benefit the health and welfare of animals in our community.

For Dana, serving with Paws is not only a privilege, but also a meaningful way to give back to the Wakulla community while helping make a difference in the lives of local animals. 💙🐾

We are excited to introduce Jeanette, Secretary of Paws of Wakulla!

Jeanette has been an animal lover for as long as she can remember. From filling her t-shirt with baby ducks as a little girl to fostering kittens and rescuing birds and other creatures whenever she had the chance, caring for animals has always been a central part of her life.

For more than 20 years, Jeanette has worked in the veterinary field and is a Certified Veterinary Technician. She has faithfully served on the Paws of Wakulla Board of Directors since 2017, including serving as past President, and now continues her service in the role of Secretary.

Jeanette is deeply grateful for the opportunity to use the skills and gifts God has given her to help care for the animals in the Wakulla community. Her passion for animal welfare, combined with her years of veterinary experience, makes her an invaluable part of the Paws mission.

Jeanette is happily married to her high school sweetheart, Chris, and together they enjoy life with their beloved fur babies — Palmer, Mable, Nuggie, Smudge, Emmie, Brady, Charlie, Gus, and GiGi. 💙🐾

We are excited to introduce Carla Hanks, Treasurer of Paws of Wakulla!

Carla has been an animal lover for many years and is honored to serve an organization whose mission makes such a meaningful impact on the Wakulla community. From the moment she was invited to join Paws of Wakulla, she recognized the importance of supporting the health, safety, and overall wellness of community animals.

Carla is passionate about the vital role Paws plays in promoting responsible animal care and population management through the many programs and services the organization provides.

With a strong background in finance along with extensive business and organizational experience, Carla brings valuable leadership and financial stewardship to the board, helping ensure Paws of Wakulla remains strong and well-positioned to continue its mission.

Serving with Paws has also strengthened Carla’s connection to the community through volunteering and partnerships with other local organizations, including Wakulla Giving Hands and Keep Wakulla County Beautiful. She encourages others to get involved, believing that volunteering truly makes a difference.

At home, Carla is loved by her two cherished furbabies, Gracie and Puddin, who bring both joyful chaos and comforting companionship to her life every day. Their unconditional love serves as a constant reminder of why this work matters so much. 💙🐾
