Adoptable Gunnar (pup) and Boo (kitty) would like to remind everyone that AWL will be CLOSED to the public on Monday, June 8, 2026, as our staff will be participating in an employee training workshop.

We will reopen and resume normal hours on:

We’re open today from 12–3 PM!

Please consider spoiling a shelter dog with a walk, a Dog Day Out, or even a short-term foster stay. Summer is officially here, and these shelter pups are ready for some fun and adventure!

We've been absolutely blown away by the number of Dog Day Outs our shelter dogs have enjoyed lately, and we'd love to keep the momentum going. Adoptable Gunnar, Paisley, Mercy, and Olivia have all been spoiled rotten with wonderful adventures beyond the shelter walls!

And the best part? These outings truly change lives. Marvel's recent adventure even snagged him a possible forever home! ❤️🐾 Moments like these are only possible because of our wonderful community that takes the time to give our shelter pets a break from kennel life and help them shine.

Our new Adoptable Dog Wall is now up front! Simply browse the photos and point to the dog you'd like to walk, adopt, foster, or spoil with a Dog Day Out. It's that easy! Our staff and volunteers will help get you set up for an unforgettable adventure with one of our amazing pups.

A few hours can make a world of difference. Whether it's a trip to the park, a pup cup run, a hike, or simply relaxing at home, these experiences help our dogs gain confidence, burn energy, and show off their wonderful personalities.

🎉🐱 ADOPTION NEWS!! 🐱🎉
FREE FELINE FRIDAY was a HUGE success!

We're thrilled to report that 3 lucky kitties are home sweet home tonight with their new families! ❤️🏡

And the good news doesn't stop there! 🐶

Our handsome boy Costner (AWL shelter longtimer since 6/3/2020) snagged an overnight Doggy Day Out and was absolutely spoiled rotten! He enjoyed cheeseburgers, a backyard bash, and a night away from the shelter soaking up all the love and attention. We love seeing our shelter dogs get these much-needed breaks from kennel life! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the shelter today, submitted applications, met our cats, donated kiddie pools, walked dogs, volunteered their time, and lent a helping hand. Every act of kindness makes a difference for the animals in our care.

🐾 We truly have an amazing community, and we're so grateful for the support you continue to show AWL and our shelter pets.

While we're celebrating these happy endings, many wonderful cats and dogs are still waiting for their forever homes. If you've been thinking about adopting, fostering, volunteering, or donating, we'd love to have you join our mission!

☀️💦 HELP US KEEP OUR SHELTER DOGS COOL! 💦☀️

With these hot summer days upon us, we're in need of a few extra kiddie pools to help our shelter dogs stay cool, comfortable, and happy! 🐶💙

Our goal is to have a pool in every outdoor doggy run so each pup can enjoy some much-needed relief from the heat. Thanks to generous supporters, we're making great progress—but we're still about 4 pools short of our goal! We'd love replacements in case a few snag holes, so having more is always a plus!!

If you're out shopping and would like to help enrich the lives of our shelter pups, we'd love to restock our supply of kiddie pools.

💦 Kiddie pools needed
🐾 Helps keep shelter dogs cool and comfortable
❤️ A simple donation that makes a big difference

We're also always in need of dog supplies! Our most-needed items include:

🐶 Purina ONE True Instinct High Protein Dog Food (wet or dry)
🛏️ Large or XL dog beds
🦴 Healthy dog treats (Blue Buffalo Health Bars are our favorite!) - NO RAWHIDE
🥩 Raw, unprocessed frozen meats (we'll gladly crockpot them for our shelter pups!)
🎾 Other dog enrichment items and supplies

Healthy dogs make happy dogs, and happy dogs make great pets! Every donation helps us provide enrichment, comfort, and nutritious meals for the animals in our care.

🐾 Lucky, our oldest dog currently living inside the shelter at 15 years old, and ALL of his doggy pals here at the AWL would be so appreciative of your support! 🐾

Donations can be dropped off anytime. If we're closed, items may be left right outside the front door.

🚨 ONE YEAR IS FAR TOO LONG... 🚨

Reno's one-year shelter anniversary is rapidly approaching next month. No dog should spend an entire year of their life waiting behind kennel doors. Let's find Reno a home — even if it's just a temporary foster placement to give him a break from shelter life. ❤️🐾

Meet Reno! This handsome 1-year-old mixed breed boy has been available for adoption since 7/31/25.

To see Reno inside his kennel can be intimidating. He puts on a tough-guy act and has plenty to say, but don't let that fool you — he's truly all bark and no bite. The shelter environment is overstimulating for him, and once he's outside those kennel walls, you get to see the real Reno.

And the real Reno? He's a big softie who loves playing fetch, happily sits for treats, and is searching for his very own best friend. 🥎❤️

🚶 Walks and outings

Even a walk or Doggy Day Out can make a huge difference in his day and help him escape the stress of shelter life for a little while.
