A stray cat near Newkirk Ave. and Liberty St. was brought to the Animal Shelter, where it developed rabies-like symptoms overnight. Subsequent testing confirmed the cat was positive for rabies.

We urge all residents to avoid approaching wildlife, including stray cats, and to report any animals exhibiting unusual behavior to Animal Control. It's also important to ensure that your pets are current on their rabies vaccinations. If you or your pets have had any recent contact with stray cats in this vicinity, please inform Animal Control.

Rabies is a serious viral disease that is preventable but can be fatal. It poses a risk to both humans and pets if bitten or scratched by an infected animal. If you suspect you, a family member, or a pet may have encountered this cat or any other wildlife acting strangely, please seek immediate advice from your healthcare provider or veterinarian.

Jenny is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart. At around 3 years old, this sweet girl has a gentle, social nature and clearly longs for the comfort and stability of a real home. While the shelter can be an overwhelming place — especially with all the loud barking dogs around her — Jenny continues to greet people with a soft wagging tail, kind eyes, and a hopeful heart.

She’s easy to leash, enjoys spending time with people, and truly seems happiest simply being close to her human friends. During her evaluation, Jenny showed more interest in interacting with her handler than in toys or treats, soaking up attention and companionship whenever she could. She’s affectionate, calm with strangers, and has a playful side that will likely shine even brighter once she feels safe and settled in a loving home.

Jenny has also shown polite, relaxed behavior with other dogs, though she can be a little nervous around louder or more excitable dogs in the shelter environment.

It’s easy to imagine Jenny curled up beside her person after a long day, finally able to relax knowing she’s safe, loved, and home for good. She’s ready for someone to see beyond the shelter walls and give her the second chance she deserves.

Have you met Buster? Don't let his kennel behavior fool you-Buster is a well-mannered sweetheart just waiting for his moment to shine. At first glance, he can seem a little extra in his kennel (hey, we all get cabin fever sometimes!), but once he's out and about, this guy is pure gentleman.

Buster enjoys going for walks and playing in the yard. Tail wags? Constant. Manners? Impeccable. Heart? Stolen.

Buster is the perfect mix of fun and affection. He just needs someone to see past the kennel walls and into his sweet, silly soul.🦴

💙Meet Bruno — a big-hearted, lovable 5-year-old pittie who’s ready for a fresh start.

Bruno is the kind of dog who makes fast friends. He’s friendly, easy to leash, and loves being around people. Once he’s comfortable, he leans right into you for affection and will happily soak up all the pets you’re willing to give. He’s got a playful, social side too — he’ll bounce around, follow you with enthusiasm, and then settle right back down when the fun winds down. On walks, Bruno is strong and excited (he definitely doesn’t skip arm day), so he’ll do best with someone who can confidently handle his strength and help him keep learning good leash manners.

Bruno is looking for a more structured home with experienced dog owners who can guide him and continue working on some of his habits. He can be a little protective of his food and toys, so he’ll need someone who understands how to manage that and help him feel secure. Because of this, Bruno would do best in a home with teens and no other pets, where he can be the center of attention. With the right person, Bruno has so much love to give — he just needs someone willing to meet him where he is and help him shine.
