This is a great post to read before Halloween
Ex-Satanist Riaan Swiegelaar was conducting a Satanic ritual when he got the shock of his life: Jesus Christ showed up instead. Once a co-founder and pastor within the South African Satanic Church, He has said that he was drawn into Satanism from a place of deep emotional brokenness, rejection, and a desire for belonging. In his own telling, the attraction wasn’t primarily about worshiping the devil, but about opposing what he felt were hypocritical expressions of Christianity and seeking empowerment where he felt powerless. For years he embraced occult rituals, psychic practices, and teachings that promised spiritual autonomy.
He says that his heart began to soften when, after a radio interview, a Christian woman unexpectedly hugged him and showed him unconditional love. He later reflected that this simple act carried a presence he couldn’t articulate at the time. According to his testimony, the love in that moment lingered with him for weeks and caused him to question what he truly believed. He describes it as the first time he felt Christ’s love through another person.
Not long after, he recounts that while preparing for a ritual, he called out to any higher power who might be real and asked for clarity. He claims that Jesus (whom he refers to as “Yeshua of Nazareth”) appeared to him spiritually and flooded him with overwhelming, non-judgmental love — the same love he recognized in that earlier encounter. In that moment, he says he realized the presence of Christ was more real, more powerful, and more loving than anything he had experienced in the occult. He describes this as the point where his allegiance completely shifted.
Since then, Swiegelaar has spoken publicly about the authority of Christ and what he calls the spiritual power of the blood of Jesus. He has said, “He flooded me with so much love,” and, “The blood of Jesus is the highest currency in the spirit world.” He now encourages others not to underestimate the impact of simply showing Christlike love — because that’s what pierced his darkness and brought him to Christ.
Recently Swiegelaar has also warned Christian parents not to dismiss the reality of spiritual warfare, especially around Halloween. Drawing from his former involvement in occult practices, he claims that the season is often used to desensitize children to darkness, normalize demonic imagery, and create curiosity about spiritual forces that are not of God. He has spoken about how rituals, symbolism, and even music can be spiritually formative, urging parents to stay alert and cover their homes and families in prayer. According to him, the blood of Jesus offers real spiritual protection, and believers should never treat the supernatural realm as a joke.
