WHACKY NAME HALL OF FAME?

A surprise day off can lead to a lot of hijinks, as documented in the cult classic John Hughes film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” But a surprise pet adoption can also lead to certain kinds of wackiness.

“When I got Bueller, it was a bit unexpected, so I didn’t have a name picked out yet,” says Nationwide member Emma L. “As any ferret owner knows, they’re not the best listeners, and about a week after having him, the infamous scene from ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’—Bueller…. Bueller…. Bueller—was playing on my TV as I was chasing him around the apartment. The name just clicked, and Ferret Bueller was born!”

Like his namesake character, Ferret Bueller knows how to “twist and shout” and parade around—to the delight of his pet family. “I’ve learned over the years that ferrets are the most uncoordinated gymnasts you’ll ever see!” Emma says. “Their signature ‘war dance’ is a hilarious mix of shimmies, somersaults and backflips that provide endless entertainment for all.”

LOST DOG SCAM ALERT! 📢

VCA associates have been made aware of a scam going around in which scammers are targeting those who have lost a pet. We wanted to ensure you all are aware as well.

How it works~

Scammers contact people missing pets with a false story about their pet's health and status, often claiming the pet has been brought to a veterinary care facility with critical injuries. The scammers then demand a "deposit" to begin emergency veterinary care. Victims will show up to the care facilities looking for their pet and realize they were scammed.

Ways to spot a scam:

1. Scammers PRETEND to be from an organization you know
In this case, pretending to be someone from your community who has your beloved pet.

2. Scammers say there’s a PROBLEM or a PRIZE

3. Scammers PRESSURE you to act immediately
In this case, using the information you posted online about your pet, and your contact information, to tell you your pet is in critical condition and needs medical attention.

4. Scammers tell you to PAY in a specific way
They often insist that you can only pay by using cryptocurrency, wiring money through a company like MoneyGram or Western Union, or putting money on a gift card and then giving them the numbers on the back of the card.
