While others sleep agriculture will still be hard at work…school’s closed Wednesday due to a water issue. We will have the strawberries coming regardless. Truck should arrive now between 11:30-12:00. We will need to unload and sort orders. I will be at the school until 2:00. Please pick up your customers orders by then, or message me with questions.

It’s that time of year, FFA’s strawberry sale! This year Alleghany High School, and Clifton Middle School FFA’s will both be selling strawberries from Florida Farm Bureau. These strawberries have been delicious! They are $26 for a full flat, $16 for a half flat, and a single is $6. Money is due at the time of order. Orders are to be sent in to advisors by February 27. Strawberries will arrive to their respective school destinations by mid March. Date will be released later. You may contact Teresa Reed, FFA Advisor, Alleghany High School, or Jennifer Hannah, FFA Advisor, Clifton Middle School for orders, or any respective FFA member. These sales help us in our FFA travels, activities, and competitions. We thank you for your support!

Hey everyone! This page is for us to share FFA with you. Below is a small list of what we’ve been up to. Please know that we will be posting pics of animals that are for adoption on this page. Call the office if interested so we can help these animals find forever homes.

We’ve been busy this semester. A few students went to C**T (Chapter Officer Leadership Training) with me. A few students participated in poultry chain competitions. We competed at the VA State Fair in 2 man cross cut, cross cut, log toss, log roll, water cannon, forestry, and hippology. Eli Bennett and Hayden Fridley placed 3rd in the state for 2 man cross-cut. For Farm to School Week we read to JRTC’s preschoolers, had a pumpkin carving contest between grade levels, and a taste test for the whole school between pumpkin or apple muffins. A few students and I went to Teach Ag at VA Tech (great opportunity to see the college and learn how to get into agriculture departments). We won the first Homecoming Parade as Alleghany Cougars. We assisted at AG Day at MGCC. We had our own station for Trunk-or-Treat at AHS. We’ve been selling beefsticks. We have an active Biggest Buck contest going on. Shanna’s baby, Stormie, had her baby. And, we are preparing for the Iron Gate Christmas Parade. Meanwhile with all of this going on, my classes are experiencing the wonders of pets for adoption. We are teamed up with the Alleghany Humane Society, Inc. and Valley View Animal Rescue to care for and observe their pets and advertise to find them homes So far, there have been 12 adoptions. Tractor Supply has been a valuable partner in this, and we have generous donations that are helping with the cost of these adoptions. Looking forward to many more productive/community events this year. I am creating a photo dump here. Enjoy many pics from the first semester!
