Huge thank you to Pawdicures Plus by Gretchen for always helping our dogs look and feel their best. Gretchen comes in to help with baths, nail trims, and today she made sure Midori was event ready with her fresh pink and purple nails.

She also offers in-home nail trims, so definitely check her out for your own pets’ nail care needs!

Midori will be at Trellises Apartments in Florence tomorrow from 12-2pm if anyone wants to come admire her nails in person.

Thank you Gretchen!! 🐾

Meet Leo 🤎

If you’re looking for a dog that’s equal parts fun, smart, and affectionate, we’d love for you to meet Leo.

He’s just over a year old, loves other dogs, and has become a favorite of several staff members and volunteers. Leo is the kind of dog who is always excited to be included, whether that’s going for a walk, hanging out with his people, or making new dog friends.

Leo has spent time in playgroups with a variety of dogs and has done well with them. Depending on the dog, he’s happy to play or just hang out and coexist. He’d love a dog friend to romp around with and then relax beside afterward.

He’s also a smart guy. Volunteers have been working with him on training and he’s already picked up on some commands. Food is definitely the way to his heart.

Like most young dogs, Leo is still working on some things. He can pull hard on leash when he’s excited and sometimes lets his enthusiasm get the best of him. But he’s young, eager to learn, and has so much potential.

Come meet Leo at Kenton County Animal Services, we’re open 12-6 PM.

Callie-pillar is 5 years old and sweet as can be.

She came to us with several other cats after their owner could no longer care for them, and now she’s looking for a home of her own.

She has been affectionate with staff, loves attention, and is ready to leave shelter life behind for a cozy spot and people to love her.

Squish is back with us and looking for a fresh start 🤍

Squish was originally with us in 2024 and was recently returned due to a death in the family. He’s about 3 years old, 52 lbs, and clearly has a big personality.

His previous adopter sent us these photos and shared that Squish did really well in a home. He did well with people, kids, cats, and most dogs. He liked walks, car rides, couch time, playtime, and being with his people.

The shelter is not where Squish shows his best side. He gets stressed here and does leash bite, but his previous adopter said they were able to work through it quickly when he was getting his energy out.

Squish is goofy, social, higher energy, and fun. He can be a little much for some dogs, so he’ll need a dog friend who matches his energy.

He is sweet, funny, and has already shown he can do really well in a home. He just needs someone who can give him the structure, exercise, and routine that help him be his best self.

Come meet Squish today! We’re open 12–6pm.

This time of year, we see an increase in calls about baby deer. While it may be tempting to help, the best thing you can usually do is give them space.

A mother deer will often leave her fawn alone for several hours while she feeds nearby. This is completely normal and helps keep the fawn safe from predators.

If you spot a fawn:
• Observe from a distance.
• Leave it where it is unless it's in immediate danger (like in the middle of the road).
• Look, but don't touch.
• Watch for signs of injury or distress such as bleeding, continuous crying or weakness.

It's important to note that Kenton County Animal Services cannot take in wild animals, as wildlife falls under the responsibility of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. However, if you're unsure about a fawn's condition, our team can come out and assess the situation to help determine whether it needs assistance or is simply waiting for mom to return.

When in doubt, contact us before intervening. A well-meaning rescue can sometimes do more harm than good, and in most cases, mom is closer than you think.

Bowman has been waiting for his happy ending since March

He came to us as a stray with a broken front leg. No chip, no ID, just a very sweet dog with a serious injury that needed time to heal.

For weeks, Bowman was on strict activity restriction. He had a cast, an e-collar, crate rest, and a lot of time spent waiting. That is hard on any dog, but especially a young dog who just wants to be with people.

And that is very much Bowman.

He loves people and wants to be part of whatever is going on. He greets everyone like they are already his friend, leans in for attention, and is happiest when he gets to be near someone. Even while he was healing, he still showed us how sweet he is. He would settle on a bed, chew on his toys, and soak up any time he got with people.

Now Bowman is finally off restrictions and ready for a home of his own.

He is 1 year old, 54 lbs, happy, goofy, affectionate, and just excited to be included again. He has been in playgroup with another playful dog and did well.

Bowman has spent most of his time with us healing. Now he deserves the chance to just be a dog again.

Stop in and meet Bowman at Kenton County Animal Services!

We all love getting outside with our dogs in Northern Kentucky. Keeping those places clean also helps protect the waterways we share.

When it comes to pet waste, remember: Bag it. Trash it. Don’t leave it behind.

Every pet deserves a home, and every home deserves clean water. Thanks to SD1 for helping spread the word this National Pet Month.

Does your pup love our region’s creeks or streams? Drop a photo of your dog enjoying Northern Kentucky’s waterways in the comments.
