Kentucky Derby Day, in the horse world is a big day, always, first Saturday, in May. Its like a sacred holiday for year-round horse racing fans. This year it was EXTRA special. Red River Farms was represented on the highest platform of racing, with Coal Battle, posting at #16, racing with 18, other, best horses. I’ve watched Jay since I can remember (2nd grade probably a good start date) he’d come in from school & grab a 6 Inch thick horse book, off dads desk, & sit & read & then question dad on what he read. I got to help make foaling charts on poster paper, and hang them on the walls in dad’s office at mom & dad’s house. (The fun stuff) We girls, played hide n go seek in the hay barn, while Jay scooped & cleaned stables, and followed dad around learning the “hobby,” (turned business) dad loved in the off season of baseball. Dad bought all of his family’s land that our Papaw Adcock’s family had, & grew Red River Farms. Jay played baseball for LA Tech, but when it came down to a choice, he chose the horses. He’s worked 24/7, for 45 years (guesstimate, since college days) and when I say 24/7, I mean on call 24 hours,7 days a week, on site 10-16 hours a day depending the season. He knows horses, blood lines, and coukd be a self made veterinarian.😂. He has missed family fun, probably taken a handful of vacations, reluctantly, and doesn’t take a day off unless it’s 2000% needed. When I say hard working, he has sacrificed, beyond, but he has paid a price, missing out on special things, too. Life Is full of choices. You have to decide what’s worth It & what you can give up to make and grow a small business. He chose the missing out, but Brandon joining him on the farm full time, Jay, now, gets a chance to do things a bit different. Jay gives Brandon, vacation time & days off, but you’ll still find Jay, at the farm, loving on those horses, making sure his horses & the ones they board are in better shape heaving, than they came & Brandon’s right by his side now. I know our dad loves that another generation chose to carry on! If you want to visit Jay, go to the farm. I do! I take my grandchildren for entertainment, to take senior pictures & to entertain Jay & Brandon (gives them a little break) & you may see Jay’s grandchildren out & about there too. It’s actually a family business that when you stand & look around you see & feel peace & the love of four legged animals that are family too! Congratulations Jay & Brandon! Hard work & dedication pays off! Thanks to all of you for the support shown to our family during the last week. It was a fun time, a dream come true & all because one man, our Dad, had a dream to start a horse breeding farm in what Dad called, “God’s country!” (Coushatta, Red River Parish) and thankful Jay & now, Brandon, too, keeps this legacy going! Who is to say, this might could happen, again? We can, always, wish! With God ALL things are possible & God is good, always!! ♥️🏇🏼♥️ Thanks again, to you!!! We Love You, ALL❣️♥️
