Buddy has been at MHS for 64 days! And you know what that means... right now his adoption fee is completely WAIVED!

He is a 9 year old boxer who is looking for a home where he can enjoy his golden years as the only spoiled dog. Don't let his age fool you though, this frosted faced cutie still has plenty of energy and will enjoy playing in the yard or going with you on daily walks. He loves people and just wants to find a soft spot to land.

Help us open up some much-needed kennel space! Now through Saturday you can adopt a canine companion or feline friend for FREE if they have been available for adoption for over 30 days.

All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. All applicants will still go through the standard adoption process regardless of the waived fees.

🚨ANNOUNCEMENT🚨

April is a busy time of year for us at MHS, and we want to keep you up to date with everything happening this week!

💙Our kennels are FULL and we need to reverse that ASAP. So, all animals that have been available for adoption for 30+ days will have completely WAIVED adoption fees 4/10-4/12.

💚Volunteer orientation is TONIGHT from 6:30-7:15pm. Attending orientation allows you to see if volunteering at MHS is the right fit for you! Whether you're interested in assisting with animal care, supporting adoption events, or helping with daily operations, we have a variety of roles available. Walk ins are welcome. 💙In partnership with Petco Love, Midlands Humane Society is offering a vaccine clinic this Sunday, April 13th from 10am-2pm.
Services to be offered:
- Parvo/Distemper (Feline 1-HCP or Canine 1-DAPPv) - *FREE
- Rabies (1 year) - $12.00
- Microchip - $15.00
*The free vaccine is available while supplies last. This clinic is first come, first serve with no appointment needed.

Another day, another "let's find Dottie a home!!" post! 🥹

Dottie is a 1.5-year-old Pointer mix and she is the longest resident dog at the shelter, having been at MHS since late June 2024. She is nearing her one-year mark here at MHS, making it almost half her life living in a kennel instead of in a loving home. She is a dog who prefers the company of humans rather than other animals, and we know this is a large reason she has been overlooked. However, we know there is an amazing home out there looking for a single, spoiled dog to be the light of their lives... and we're asking for YOUR help to find that home.

Ridley is ready to settle into his new home....

Ridley is a 5y old, neutered male, DSH. Ridley came to us with an injured toe that ended up needing to be amputated. He has healed well and is ready to move on to his adoptive home. Ridley is very affectionate and wants all the attention he can get.

Stanley is a 7y old, neutered male Boxer Mix. This sweet man loves attention and would love a home where he can get all the pets and scratches he can get!! Though he is a bit older he is still very energetic and loves to play!!

Meet Tilly! 🥰

She is a 6-year-old pit mix who was found as a stray in a walmart parking lot back in January. She is laid back, gentle girl who is as sweet as can be. She went to the Clarinda Correctional Facility as part of their dog training program, and being the smart girl she is, she excelled with her training. She loves everyone she meets and we think she will be a great addition to most any home. Tilly will need to be adopted to an area without a breed ban.

Sweet Archie wants to say hi! 👋

Archie is a 2y old, neutered male, Husky mix. Archie is a very sweet boy that is looking for someone that will give him time to warm up and show his personality. Right now new things are a bit scary so a quiet home that can help build his confidence would be ideal. Archie has done ok with other dogs but is very shy on introductions.

Say hello to Maverick 👋

Maverick is a 2 & 1/2 year old, neutered male Lab Mix. Maverick went through the Clarinda Prison Dog Training program so has learned some basic obedience skills. He would benefit from a home that could continue working with him to build these skills. Maverick would need a meet and greet with any potential housemates as he can be a bit selective with other dogs. He has never been around cats.

This morning we were joined by the sophomore class of Underwood Community Schools as part of their “Integration” event that encourages students to learn about community service and how they can help out.

These awesome students helped with general cleaning and even put on some gardening gloves to pull some nuisance weeds from the front of our property. Like we sometimes say, “it’s not always puppies and kittens around here!”. With that being said, we definitely made sure these hard workers got to spend some time socializing with a couple of our adoptable dogs.

Thank you to this great bunch of kids for spending your morning volunteering with us at MHS. We are very grateful for all your hard work!
