Psssst… guess what? To celebrate our upcoming adoption event at PetSmart in Council Bluffs on Saturday from 12-3pm, we’re holding an adoption special!

That’s right, you can adopt a new bff for only $50 today through Saturday! To be honest, our adoptions have been pretty slow and we could really use some community help. So if you’ve been thinking of adopting, now is a perfect time!

UPDATE: ADOPTED!

This young parakeet was found as a stray and has been spending the last few days serenading our staff in the office. While he's still shy with handling and not quite used to it yet, he's ready to spread his wings and find a forever home.

Meet Sassy! 💕

This 4-month-old Pointer mix is a bundle of energy and fun. She’s your typical playful, outgoing puppy who’s always ready for adventure and plenty of exercise.

Sassy will thrive with an active family that can keep her busy with walks, playtime, and training. Like any puppy, she’s still learning the ropes—so her adopters should be ready for the joys (and challenges!) of puppyhood, including potty training and teaching her good manners.

Meet Serenity!

At 6 years old, this Lab mix still has the heart (and energy!) of a puppy. Serenity is always ready to join you for fall walks, adventures, and plenty of playtime. She’s outgoing, friendly, and will happily be your shadow—especially if you’re handing out good scratches.

When Serenity came to MHS, she was obviously dealing with skin allergy and a secondary skin infection. While we’re not exactly sure yet what’s causing them, she’s been doing well with medicated baths and continued care. Adopters will want to work with their veterinarian to make sure her skin continues to improve and to help her get back to a healthier weight.

Through it all, Serenity’s happy personality shines, and she’s more than ready to find a family of her own. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to bring joy, fun, and a whole lot of love into your life, Serenity might be your girl!

Mindy is known at the shelter as "tiny torpedo" and we think that's a great nickname.

She is a 4-year-old pit mix who may be short and stocky, but don't let that fool you. This girl is FAST in playgroup and has a knack for taking out her unsuspecting doggy friends when they aren't paying attention which she thinks is super funny. She is a very friendly, outgoing girl who loves to play and keep you on your toes. She is a happy-go lucky girl with the cutest, squishy face! Due to her breed, she will need to be adopted to an area without a breed ban.

✨PUPDATE✨

"Since adopting Mabel, she has quickly stolen all of our hearts. She has adjusted so well and is living her best life. She has a giant yard to run and chase butterflies and crickets in, and soon it will be even better when we get it all fenced in. Mom's lap is her favorite napping spot, Dad is always good for a ham treat, and she sleeps all night in bed with her sister! We are so lucky to have her, and she is truly the best dog."

Queen just completed the training program at the Clarinda Correctional Facility, and now she's back at MHS ready to find a furever home!

This gorgeous 3-year-old lab mix is playful, athletic, and loves a good game of fetch more than anything. She’s fantastic with other dogs and even used to run 3 miles a day with her handler—so she’d love an active home where she can keep up the fun.
