SHARED FROM ANOTHER BREEDER:😢
Unfortunately, a client of ours did not listen to instruction and allowed their puppy to get down on the ground at a gas station after picking him up. The puppy got parvo and was put to sleep.
I constantly harp on NOT taking your puppy anywhere but home and this is why. Parvo and other viruses are no joke and your puppy can contract it within SECONDS.
When you pick your puppy up, bring a crate and puppy pads. You will have to stop and clean up puppy pads, but it’s better than the alternative of your puppy getting and illness and possibly not making it out alive.
Even though they have had 2 vaccinations when you get your puppy, they are not fully immune until their last vaccination (generally given at 16 weeks) and it can take up to 7-14 days after that last shot to build immunity.
So please let this be a lesson to everyone. Don’t take your puppy anywhere, don’t let your puppy down anywhere. You don’t know what other dogs have been in the area you are putting your puppy down in. It is an extremely unfortunate circumstance and it is devastating to lose a puppy that we raised because of people not listening to instruction.
If you choose not to listen to your breeder and take your puppy all over the planet, you have zero right to be angry with your breeder when your puppy contracts a virus. I can only say do not take your puppy out so many times, it’s up to the new owner to listen.
