Calling all drone pilots, pet parents, first responders, farmers, utility crews, light show operators, and community supporters—we need your voice right now.

The FCC has proposed a sweeping rule under Docket 26-189 that reclassifies standard commercial technologies as "military-grade" equipment, threatening to retroactively ban foreign-made drones and essential components.

The proposed wording broadly targets key tools used daily across our communities:

🔹 Thermal Imaging Payloads: Essential for search and rescue (finding missing pets or lost hikers at night) and firefighters locating hot spots.

🔹 Agricultural Spray Drones: Critical for precision farming, crop management, and efficient spraying.

🔹 LiDAR Obstacle Avoidance: Vital safety features that prevent crashes into power lines, trees, and structures.

🔹 Automated Drone "Dock" Systems: Used by first responders for rapid emergency response and utility companies for infrastructure inspections.

🔹 "Swarm" Technology: The standard systems powering community drone light shows.

WHY THIS IMPACTS EVERYONE:

Approved, domestically-produced equipment costs many times more than existing gear—if an equivalent replacement even exists on the market. If this rule passes as written, small businesses, SAR volunteers, and public safety agencies will be forced to drastically raise prices or stop offering these critical services altogether.

We support a strong domestic technology industry, but banning proven, accessible safety tools without viable alternatives puts communities and small businesses at risk.

Be asvised, UAS (drone) flight operations are prohibited over a significant portion of NE Ohio, including Cortland and most of northern Trumbull county tomorrow afternoon/evening due to a visit by the President to Cleveland and points east of/ along Lake Erie.

Do NOT be the one that violates the TFR. Not only do you risk fines & jail, but you harm the entire UAS industry.

Some days as a small business owner, at the end of the day, you feel like you were hit by a train. Today was no exception, and was fraught with both defeats and victories.

Spent the day chasing from Kinsman to Ashtabula and ending in Conneaut today. In the interest of safety, we left the drone at home today, and went at it the old-fashioned way; on foot with the Nikon. Got close enough to feel the intense heat of that big old locomotive, and, despite some frustrating technical hiccups, with a dash of skill and dumb luck, got some stills and video footage I am satisfied with.

We'll be processing some photos & videos to share in the coming days, with this one being one of my personal favorites given its connection to our company logo (the eagle).
