After being out of town for a few days and then sick for almost a week Moxie is finally getting back into training! She is leading all over the yard, pasture, and arena, learning how to lunge, and working on a bit of desensitizing. Moxie also wore the saddle pad for the first time today! We’re still a long ways away from the saddle, but with the right foundation that will go just as smoothly.

Tag #9663 is now Felony! Named for her flighty and mareish personality😂. Despite the name I’ve given her, I’m incredibly proud of the progress she has made over these past 4 days. Although she is no where near as far along as Moxie, Felony has turned into a completely different horse mentally. 4 days ago she was all flight with no desire to engage with me. All she wanted was for me to leave her alone. Now, she is curious enough to reach out and sniff me and working up the bravery to take a few steps towards me! We had our first touches this morning but the most exciting part is the look in her eyes. She’s gone from wide eyed, scared out of her mind to calmly observing me and wanting to learn more.

Felony and Moxie are the perfect example of how each horse is different and has different needs. They were rounded up from the same herd area at the same time, went through processing together, adopted out together, and have had the same amount of training time. Where Moxie is unbothered by most everything and is happy to go along with anything anyone says, Felony will thrive off a more one on one connection with her handler built through a slower training pace and a soft hand.

Day 4 with Moxie!
✅first walk outside her pen
✅walking over the bridge
✅walking over poles
❌walking past cars😂

She did incredible right up until I asked her to walk past a car. That was a BIG no but she came back to me really nicely! Moxie also got a pen upgrade and now gets to go out with Maverick and Phoenix.

Tag #9619 has finally been named Moxie! Still no name for #9663 yet. Day 2 with these two mustangs and both have made so much progress in their own ways. Moxie was a bit wary at first but has decided I give good scratches and we can be friends. #9663 is pretty confident I’m going to eat her and although very reactive, she’s made so much more progress yesterday and this morning. Our first session she bolted at any move I made and ran circles pretty much the whole time. This morning, only 4 sessions later she sniffed my hand for the first time and managed not to crap herself at the smell of me😂. Both of these girls are my Mustang Champions and Classic prospects. I’ll be offering both up for sponsorships within the next few weeks, so if you’re interested in one of these mares after training and showing that would be a great opportunity to reserve one (or both😉) ahead of time.

I promised myself I would never touch another Piceance, CO mustang with a 10ft pole… anyway this is tag 9619 and 9663, both from the Piceance HMA! These are my prospects for the Mustang Champions and hopefully Classic as well. So far tag 9619 (sorrel mare) has a fairly calm an curious disposition but can shut down easily. 9663 (bay mare) is a bit of a firecracker😅. Very reactive but does seem to have a thinking side of her brain. No names yet but would love some suggestions!

All four of these wild ones will officially start training today!

Kansas, who I picked up back in April, was as snorty and wild as they come so I decided to just give her time to settle in. She had a few days of training shortly after pickup and was able to sniff my hand and allowed light touches on her face, but was still very nervous and reactive. Now that she’s had time to settle in she will begin training again and hopefully won’t be quite as snorty😅.

Elliot is a client horse here for gentling and groundwork. This poor guy is not photogenic at all😂. He came for an emergency session a few months ago to get a halter on but is still fairly wild and wary of people. He was a big kicker last time I met him, but hopefully he’ll have chilled out a bit since then.

Italy and Guapo have both had a few days to settle in. I’ve spent some time in their pens and they’re getting curious. Guapo has walked over to sniff me a few times. Italy isn’t quite as confident but has taken hay from my hand. Excited to start training with them!

If you know me you know Ivy Mae is by far my favorite horse and will always hold a special place in my heart. However, she is just never going to be tall enough for me and so when I saw this 5yr 15h mustang mare in holding at the Delta, UT facility I fell in love immediately. The resemblance is amazing, not just in build and color but also temperament and the look in their eyes. Meet MVM Made In Italy, (AKA Italy)! Thank you Serena Andrus for the name ideas! She arrived home today around 3pm. I had absolutely no expectations for her first day here (especially after unloading from the trailer like a bat out of hell😬) but she blew me away with how willing and thoughtful she is. I spent a few minutes this evening offering her some hay and she quickly became comfortable enough to get some first touches in too!

Oh and there’s a b***o too😅. I’ve been DYING to get my hands on a BLM b***o for years but the time was never right. Finally I came across the AssMasters challenge hosted by Annie Macdermaid with the goal to get older b***os with less of a chance of getting adopted out of holding. I saw one picture of this handsome 12yr guy and was sold. Name pending, but possibly Guapo? He is too cute! And he will be available after training! Would like to get a home lined up for him before I start obsessing over his freakishly long ears and end up keeping him😆.

Ivy Mae turned 3 years old today! I cannot believe I’ve had almost 2 years with her already. This mare has a heart of gold and personality to match! Ivy is pretty much a giant puppy in a horses body and the coolest little liberty pony I could’ve asked for.

Spider and Cherry, two QH’s here for 30 days of training. They look almost identical in the same tack😆. Spider has been used as a ranch horse most of his life but owner has hopes of a future in barrel racing so much to his dismay, he’s learning how to carry himself in the arena. Cherry’s owner also has plans for barrel racing, but she’s just a little too green for that right now so we’re going to put some buttons on and give her a good start on those barrels!

Introducing Crow and Phoenix!
Crow (black gelding) is a 7-8yr mustang from Silver King, NV. He’s here from Rescue Ranchito for some groundwork and starting undersaddle with plans to be an eventer in the future!
Phoenix (cremello mare) is a 3yr mustang from Piceance, CO. She’s a personal project and will be available this fall after starting undersaddle. Also planning on a little pony eventer or hunter. How cute would these two be eventing together?!
