A quick summary as you know is that I never held a brush before 11 months ago. I nearly died as a result of a dose of medication prescribed for me by a doctor which became much too high over time. The news story does a good job of explaining what happened. I have Savant Syndrome after my brain was rearranged by the drug and after many dark months I emerged almost like a new person with a special un natural ability for art. I suddenly could draw when all my life prior to then I could not. My passion for painting horses is overwhelming at times. I am privileged to have been given exclusive rights by WIND (WILD IN NORTH DAKOTA) to use their reference photos of this wild herd in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. They are a 501c3 who works passionately on behalf of raising awareness about this herd and the individual horses who are part of it. They do this so that when the herd is culled at times, these horses can have a second chance at life after being removed from the wild.
The foal in the "TEACHABLE MOMENT" painting along with 3 other horses fortunately were purchased at auction by the founder of this non profit, Eileen Gordon. The foal has grown up to be the greatest ambassador for the herd. His name is Dakota Page and he and his mother will be in the up coming movie Directed by Stephen Savage "WIND OF HEAVEN"

"Untangled"

There are only a few paintings that I really can " feel" as I paint.
This piece was like that. I feel as if I have been released and Untangled from the trauma of the last 18 months.

Who could ever imagine that I went from brain damage and helplessness to hope filled with windswept freedom to be the new creation that I am. The brain injury miraculously gave me the ability to draw and paint which I never had before. I would never have chosen it but I wouldn't change it now. Thanks to my heavenly Father who turned a disaster onto a masterpiece. "He makes all things new..."
