Here is a video of Scuba that you aren’t seeing in his pictures! Full of life and love with one of our fabulous VOLUNTEERS! 💙 He has still had no one inquire or come for him, Rescue or Adopters!
We know it’s a hard decision but what’s even harder is the end. Shelters are full & Rescues are full & we have very limited Foster homes.

Please share with anyone and everyone… Unfortunately for Scuba and so many others that are Surrendered or Abandoned in Kentucky as a whole this is the problem.
We can network, share, plea and even beg…. but our hopes will remain for a Angel to come.

For those asking, Scuba is still at the shelter waiting.

Over 1K shares. Hundreds of comments, but zero people have come to meet Scuba Scar.

His post has reached thousands of people, but he’s still sitting in a kennel and has been since July. You may see 1K shares and assume someone else will step up.

But Scuba doesn’t have a thousand potential adopters. He doesn’t even have ONE.

And Scuba isn’t the only dog at risk. Many dogs without Code Red posts are still waiting for someone to notice them.

We know these posts bring anger, sadness, and frustration. They bring those feelings to us, too. We care for these dogs every day. We know their personalities, celebrate their progress, and fight to save them. We don’t want to make posts that feel like threats saying“Adopt him, or he may die.”

We want people to adopt Scuba because he’s a good dog who deserves a home, not only because he’s running out of time.

By the time a dog receives a Code Red post, we’ve already tried adoption posts, videos, specials, and pleas for fosters. Too often, those efforts are overlooked until the situation becomes urgent.

A viral post does not equal a saved dog. We don’t need a thousand people to adopt Scuba. We need ONE.

If Scuba isn’t the right fit, another dog may be. We’ve had several people ask if Scuba is dog friendly, cat friendly, or kid friendly despite his recommendations of being an only pet. While Scuba may or may not be good with those things, we have several other great dogs at the shelter who are good with those things, and yet you still aren’t showing up to meet them.

Every adoption or foster placement opens space and helps save another life. Dogs are still being euthanized that never get a code red post while Scuba waits because we are still full. Saving Scuba will open one kennel when we need much more than that.

If your question is: Why didn’t we know about the other dogs before they were euthanized??? You did. They’ve been posted. But because they didn’t have a date attached to them, you did nothing.

Scuba has a date attached to him, and you’re still doing nothing. If you keep saying “someone adopt him” you are a someone. If 1,000 people are saying “someone adopt him” how many someone’s is it going to take before someone actually becomes the “someone” that steps up?

You are someone. Do something.

We see the comments. We read them. And yes, they affect us.

Behind every heartbreaking decision is a shelter worker who came into this field because they love animals. Someone who is already carrying the weight of the lives they couldn’t save, while desperately trying to save the ones they still can.

The anger, the accusations, the hateful words, yes they hurt. But ultimately, they hurt the animals more.

Because every moment spent defending ourselves is a moment we could be advocating for an animal who needs us. And every time the conversation becomes about blaming the shelter, the animals waiting in those kennels get lost in the noise.

We understand the anger. We feel it, too. We don’t want animals to die for lack of space any more than you do. But telling shelters to simply stop euthanizing and stop taking animals if we’re full doesn’t make those animals disappear. It doesn’t make their suffering disappear. It just means they may have nowhere left to go.

We aren’t asking you to agree with every decision we make. We’re asking you to remember why we’re here.

For the animals.

Even when we can’t save them all. 💔

What a great Howl-o-Ween Yappy Hour event hosted by Corbin Animal Clinic 👻🎃

One of our several adoptable dogs, Capone had a fantastic time meeting everyone and seeing a lot of familiar shelter alumni!

He may not have won the costume contest as a hot dog, but we think he stole the show (or at least our hearts along with several pup cups) 🐶🍦

🚨 FINAL PLEA FOR SCUBA SCAR. DEADLINE: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH. 🚨

UPDATE 10/24/26 - He is still at the shelter waiting for someone to adopt him.

Scuba Scar has been with us since July 31st. That’s over 80 days of waiting, and unfortunately, his time is running out. 💔

We want to talk about something that we believe has been holding Scuba back from finding a home.

The dreaded “ONLY ANIMAL HOME” recommendation.

We understand how intimidating those words can be. But as an animal shelter, it is our responsibility to make recommendations that we believe are in the best interest of both the animals we adopt out AND the families adopting them. And sometimes, those recommendations need a little explanation.

Scuba has shown frustration through his kennel door when other dogs approach, and we were told he had previously been involved in a fight with another dog.

Does that mean Scuba hates every dog on the planet?

No. Actually, far from it.

Scuba has been around female dogs and done well. He’s been around submissive dogs and done well. What he DOESN’T do particularly well with is dominant male dogs.

Scuba has also since been NEUTERED, something he wasn’t when he first arrived. Neutering can sometimes help reduce hormone-driven behaviors, although it isn’t a guarantee that dog-to-dog aggression will improve.

We aren’t saying Scuba couldn’t potentially live with another dog. We’re saying that based on what we’ve observed in the SHELTER, we believe he would be most successful as an only pet. That doesn’t mean he is a bad dog. It means we are trying to set him AND his future family up for success.

And can we talk about how wonderful he is with PEOPLE?!

🐾 LOVES people
🐾 Has been around children and done AMAZINGLY

His adoption fee will be drastically reduced for the right adopter.

Scuba is not some terrifying, uncontrollable monster. He’s a young dog who has some preferences about his canine company.

And apparently, having preferences is a crime when you’re a shelter dog. 🙃

We know there are homes out there without other animals or with submissive dogs. We know there are people looking for a dog who loves humans, who can be someone’s best friend, who doesn’t need a canine sibling to be happy.

Scuba just needs ONE of those people to find him.

💔 We are giving Scuba Scar until FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH.

That’s two more weeks to find him a way out.

We don’t want to euthanize Scuba. We don’t want his story to end because he spent over three months waiting for a home that never came. But we cannot continue to house dogs indefinitely when new animals are arriving and kennels are desperately needed.

Please don’t let the words “only animal home” be the reason you scroll past him. If you don’t have other pets, Scuba might be exactly the dog you’ve been looking for.

If you can’t adopt, PLEASE share him. Tag someone. Reach out to a rescue. Help us find the person who can give this boy a chance.

Scuba Scar doesn’t need everybody. He just needs somebody. ❤️

🐾🩺 HAPPY NATIONAL VETERINARY TECHNICIAN WEEK! 🩺🐾

Behind every successful shelter is a team of veterinary professionals who help make the impossible possible. ❤️

Shelter medicine is not for the faint of heart. Between endless spays and neuters, mystery illnesses, emergency cases, and animals arriving in need, our veterinary partners have certainly seen their fair share of interesting things from us. 😅

We simply could not do what we do without veterinarians and veterinary technicians who go above and beyond to help animals who have nobody else advocating for them.

A VERY special thank you to our primary veterinary clinic, Creekside Veterinary Services, for helping keep our shelter animals healthy, getting them spayed/neutered and giving them the best chance at finding forever homes. ❤️

We also appreciate our partners at Corbin Animal Clinic and Veterinary Care Center for helping with unusual and challenging cases, as well as Williamsburg Veterinary Clinic and Corbin Animal Health and Wellness Center for partnering with us through our reduced-cost spay/neuter voucher program! 🐶🐱
