Minion is officially our longest resident now and as you can see from his intake photo, he would actually rather be anywhere else on earth.

Don’t let the death glare fool you though… once he’s out of the kennel, he’s actually a sweet little dude. Tiny black ball of chaos. Surprisingly fun-sized.

Minion is around 1 year old and 32 lbs, and according to the highly advanced, definitely accurate breed scanner app on my phone, he’s a Labrador Retriever.

…and honestly?

I kinda see it.

He small. But he can pass.

Now is he photogenic? Absolutely not. Half the time he’s looking away, blinking, moving at the speed of light, or appearing like a mysterious figure caught on a security camera at 3 AM.

The camera does NOT understand his tiny little body shape. Half the time he looks like my sleep paralysis demon wearing a dog costume… which honestly tracks because at this point I’m so emotionally drained my sleep paralysis demon has become a dog.

Bro leaves us with absolutely nothing to work with but we are trying our best here. 😭

Unfortunately, while everyone argues in the comments of code red posts, Minion quietly became our longest resident in the background.
And no, this is NOT another code red. We are trying to prevent reaching that point by getting him out before that happens.

That’s the entire point of these posts.

These dogs are not posted over and over because we enjoy emotionally sabotaging ourselves at 11 PM on a Tuesday. They’re posted because when dogs sit for months and intake keeps climbing, eventually long-stay dogs become at risk.

And unfortunately Minion has reached that point simply because people keep scrolling past him.

Which is honestly insane because once you get him out of the kennel, he’s actually a funny little guy. Awkward. Slightly haunted looking. Built like someone tried to draw a lab from memory. But sweet.

Half the time he looks deeply offended to be perceived at all and I don’t think I have ever related to a dog more, but we genuinely think he’d thrive in a home where he can finally decompress and stop having a camera shoved in his face every 4 business days for another “please adopt me before we spiral again” post.

As our longest resident, Minion’s adoption fee has been reduced to $60. And before the debates start in the comments… no, Minion himself does not care about economic discourse. I don’t even think he pays rent. He just wants out of the shelter. 😭

Minion is fully vetted, neutered, vaccinated, and will be microchipped before going home.

Anyway.

🚨 PATRICK UPDATE 🚨

Or apparently…
THOR. 😭

After 60 days in the shelter, approximately 450 comments, several emotional support caffeinated beverages, and at least 47 attempts at explaining how shelter overcrowding works in Facebook comment sections…

Patrick was adopted. 🥹

And honestly? The ending is kind of perfect.

His adopter turned out to be someone who lived next to Patrick’s previous owner, and the SECOND Patrick saw him, he recognized him immediately.

Sir.
Your government name was THOR this whole time????

Meanwhile we’ve been in here calling this man Patrick for 60 days while he’s apparently been thinking:
“that is NOT my name but alright I guess.”

But honestly, this is exactly why we fight so hard for these dogs even when the comment sections start looking like a televised courtroom trial.

Patrick had been shared over and over for weeks with very little attention. Then suddenly hundreds of people saw him, shared him, talked about him, rooted for him, argued about him, and ultimately…

the right person saw him too.

Because sometimes the right person really does show up. Sometimes the dog that everyone scrolls past for two months finds his way back to someone familiar. Sometimes it works out.

And while Patrick/Thor is absolutely the main character today, let’s also hear it for Don. 🥹

The family that originally came to meet Patrick realized he wasn’t the best fit for their home (which is EXACTLY why meet-and-greets matter) but instead of saying “i just can’t do another dog right now even tho i was gonna do it for Patrick,” they met Don instead…

…and adopted him. ❤️

Which honestly feels like the shelter version of: “task failed successfully.”

So today Patrick/Thor went home, Don went home, Two kennel spaces opened up & two dogs got the fresh start they deserved

Anyway. We’re thrilled. We’re emotionally tired. And we’re pretty sure Thor has been silently judging us for getting his name wrong this entire time.

…Now if you actually read this far, stay tuned because Harold has a meet-and-greet with his foster and potential adopter scheduled for 5:45 and we are hoping things go well 🤞👀

🎉ADOPTED!!

Don is an 8 month old shepherd mix weighing around 50 lbs of pure teenage confusion.

He was neutered for an adopter who suddenly decided they “just couldn’t do it right now.”

So naturally, Don has been replaying the entire relationship in his head like:

“Was it because I stepped on your foot 14 times??? Was it the zoomies??? Did I come on too strong emotionally???”

We’ve assured him it probably wasn’t personal.
But he is entering his “sad indie boy” era just in case.

Don is a goofy, playful boy full of uncoordinated enthusiasm who is somehow 90% legs & still figuring out where his body ends and the floor begins

He loves to play, loves attention, and has the energy of a teenage boy who just discovered Mountain Dew and parkour. He’s awkward in the most lovable way possible.

One minute he’s trying to impress you and the next he’s tripping over absolutely nothing and acting like it never happened.

Honestly? Classic Don behavior.

He deserved better than getting all dressed up for a forever home that never happened, but we know his actual people are out there somewhere. Preferably people who appreciate large dramatic shepherd teenagers, accidental body slams delivered with love, and emotionally sensitive himbos with big puppy eyes.

This is Beans.
He’s a 2-year-old, 77 lb husky with the emotional energy of a divorced campground dad who owns one folding chair and minds his business.

Other dogs?
“cool.” 😌

People?
“acceptable.” 😌

Kids?
“tiny humans. fine.” 😌

Cats?
Beans saw a cat once and immediately remembered he was genetically engineered by ancient snow wolves.

So let us all say it together now:

🚫👏 NO 👏 CATS 👏🚫

Not “maybe with training.”
Not “my cat is dog savvy.”
Not “the cat will stay upstairs.”

In fact, any comments bypassing all of this information to say “I have 6 cats but I still want him 🥰” will get you personally enrolled in our free reading comprehension program.

Beans means business. The cats have suffered enough.

That said… with literally everyone else?
He’s weirdly chill. Aloof in the most husky way possible. Like he’s present physically but spiritually somewhere in the Yukon staring into the distance contemplating taxes.

He’s dog friendly, kid friendly, and honestly pretty easygoing for a husky.
He’s not out here trying to micromanage your life. He just wants a home, snacks, and a cat-free environment where he can continue being a large sentient can of soup.

While other dogs dream of fluffy beds and cozy blankets…

Queeny has chosen:
✨ a hole in the wall ✨

The kennel bed? No. 🙂‍↔️
A thick comforter? No. 🙂‍↔️
The corner like a normal dog?? No. 🙂‍↔️

Queeny prefers to curl up inside the unfinished cutout for the outdoor run like some kind of cryptid raccoon-goblin hybrid.

Our kennel techs noticed her deeply concerning interior design choices and decided to support her journey instead of fighting it.

So naturally… they upgraded her cave.

Queeny now has:
✔️ one emotional support hole
✔️ one pillow
✔️ one staff team fully enabling her behavior

At Knox-Whitley Humane Association, we take comfort very seriously. Even when the comfort choice is… whatever this is.

(And before anyone asks: no, this is NOT an advertisement to bring your pets here for luxury goblin accommodations 😭)

Truthfully, Queeny would much prefer a real home with a comfy couch, a soft bed, and humans willing to accept that she may occasionally sleep in weird places for no reason.

At this point, Walter is basically a returning champion.

9 whole days in a home this time.
That’s officially a new personal best. Someone get this man a sponsorship deal.

Unfortunately, Walter has once again been “fired” from family life for crimes including:

❌ being deeply offended by loud children existing before 10 AM
❌ grumbling like an elderly man who fought in a war nobody asked about

And honestly?

We get it.

Walter would like everyone to know that mornings are for:
✔️ sleeping
✔️ silence
✔️ emotional peace
✔️ not getting body-slammed awake by tiny humans screaming about cereal

Does he grumble when the kids screech like banshees?
Yes.

But it’s less “aggressive dog” and more:
“Can y’all PLEASE keep it down before I throw my back out?”

Walter is a 5-year-old border collie mix weighing around 70 lbs of grumpy old man trapped inside a dog’s body. Beneath the dramatic sighs and union complaints is actually a really sweet dog who just wants a calmer home where he can vibe in peace.

His ideal home:
🏡 quieter environment
🚫 no chaotic cats
🚫 no loud young kids
🛋️ comfy couch preferred
😴 respect for nap schedules mandatory

Walter has now won:
🥇 Most Returns Without Giving Up
🥇 Loudest Sighs Per Minute

Today was a GOOD day! 🤩

We said goodbye to 27 puppies…

…AND, 🥁drumroll please🥁

TeeTee is finally headed to her forever after 56 long days in the shelter!

Thank you Kentucky Saving Them Together, Inc., Safe Hands Rescue, and we can’t forget Veterinary Care Center for getting TeeTee started on her heartworm treatment journey!

Special thanks to Jen with In The Hollar Dogs for transporting early morning for 6 pups and the dedicated fosters that gave a few of them a break for a few days before transport!

Our kennels won’t stay empty for long, but we’ll call this a win for today! 💛
