It's with a great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of She-Ra, formerly Izzy.
Such a sweet, loving mama dog, she left an impact on everyone she met.
Please read these beautiful words shared by her mother Yael Jex Hanover. ❤️
“This dog needs a family with a lot of kids,” Jana, owner of Tails from the Barkside told me. She was referring to a five year old pittie mix who, at the time, was named Izzy. We thought this was cute because one of our sons is also named Izzy and how funny would that be? The first time we saw a picture of canine Izzy, she was wearing a rainbow lei and a goofy smile. Definitely a girl I would want to hang out with.
Jana brought Izzy over to meet us one evening and we could see immediately that Jana knew what she was talking about. Izzy was SO excited to meet the kids. She bounded into our living room without hesitation and bounced from couch to couch sniffling and nuzzling each of our five kids in turn. They were all enamored with her immediately, except, ironically the human Izzy, he was a tad overwhelmed. We said, “let’s take her for the weekend and see how it goes.”
My oldest son and I took her for a walk around the block. We agreed she looked more like a She-Ra.
The next morning, we decided to give She-Ra a tour. At the time, my daughter, Nurys was one and a half and just could not get enough of her. The feeling was mutual. We took She-Ra out to the yard and Nurys was never more than a couple steps behind. She-Ra bent down to sniff the grass. Nurys bent down next to her. She-Ra put her shoulder to the grass. Nurys put her shoulder to the grass. She-Ra rolled on to her back and wiggled gleefully in the grass. Nurys rolled on to her back and wiggled along side her.
For the next six and a half years, they were inseparable. She-Ra was the most patient, happy, loving companion a little girl could ask for. When she wasn’t busy being Nurys’s playmate or favorite piece of comfy furniture, or enticing the boys into wrestling with her, She-Ra was my husband’s most adoring fan. Everyone should find someone who looks at them the way she looked at Josh.
She loved people, especially babies. If she’d had it her way, She-Ra would have run a neighborhood creche. She was always happy to greet guests and just about everyone who ever came over would say, “This is the best dog,” and they were right. Jana was right, too, this dog needed a family with a lot of kids…almost as much as this family with a lot of kids needed her. ❤️
