✨️✨PLACING ADULTS️✨️✨️

Every so often, I see a question pop up about whether or not placing retired breeding animals is ethical. Here is my take-

To people who aren’t breeders, it often looks bad or feels icky... like breeders are just tossing away dogs once they’ve been used to produce puppies. Let me give you a different perspective...

If we didn’t rehome our retired dogs we would end up with hundreds over time. None would receive the care or attention they deserve. That is not fair to anyone‼️

I receive messages and see posts from the owners of my retired breeding dogs. While their lives are comfortable with me, they now get to live an incredibly loved and spoiled life, some times as an only dog with a family that adores them. Different isn’t good or bad, it’s just different. They live a different life with their families than they would have with me. They are content, satisfied, and loved with me; they continue to be all of those things, but with their very own people and without having to share those people with a big pack of other dogs.

The day I let one of my retired dogs go to a family is HARD. I look forward to updates on birthdays, “gotcha” days, and out of the blue every few months. I see how they are loved beyond measure, and I am grateful every day that my “retired” dogs have been blessed into the lives of the people that love them just as much as I ever did. I’m glad it could be one of mine that they love.

Quality breeders don’t rehome retired breeding dogs because it’s easy. We do it in spite of how hard it is on us because it’s what’s best for them.

Rehoming is not tossing them aside, it’s placing them in the best possible situation so they can live their best life. ❤️

Just a FYI if you are lucky enough to get one of my retired adults -DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT call it a “breeder rescue“ or a rescue!

You are not rescuing anything from my home. I am giving YOU the opportunity to have a well cared for dog.

I am a breeder, so this rings very true...many sleepless nights, many more tears than I care to count but I wouldn't change a thing!!! I love them from the moment they are born... even if they are here for only minutes, hours or days, or born sleeping...they have my heart for their entire lives. ❤️

I bring them into the world and I am responsible to make sure they have the very best lives!❤️❤️❤️

I am blessed that all the families I choose, know they can reach out to me any time with any questions or concerns!

***Important Read***

Not All Breeders Are the Same and That’s the Problem.

I know what most people picture when they hear the word “breeder.”

Cages stacked high.

Dogs with matted coats and sad eyes.

Tiny, frail puppies behind wire fencing while some Sarah McLachlan song plays in the background.

And honestly… it breaks my heart too.

Because those dogs deserve better.

They deserve grass under their paws, sunlight on their faces, and someone who whispers their name with love.

They deserve what I …and so many others like me wake up every day fighting to give.

But somewhere along the way, the word “breeder” got ruined.

It became something people whisper with disgust instead of pride.

And now, every one of us who’s doing it the right way gets painted with the same brush.

The truth is…

You can’t lump us all together.

Because some breed for money,

and some breed for purpose.

Some count profits,

and some count heartbeats.

Some skip testing because “it’s too expensive,” and some spend thousands making sure no puppy ever suffers from something preventable.

We run OFAs, DNA panels, hips, hearts, eyes not for bragging rights, but for peace of mind.

We study endless hours about physical development and emotional development to create the strongest puppy curriculum that will train the amazing puppies from birth.

Some raise puppies in barns or sheds,

and some raise them in their living rooms ,

in the middle of family chaos,

where babies giggle, vacuums roar, and coffee pots beep, because that’s how you raise a puppy ready for real life.

Some disappear after pickup,

and some stay up until 2 a.m. helping new families through crate training, puppy blues, or that first “why won’t he sleep” night.

We cry when they cry.

We celebrate every update.

Because when that puppy leaves our home a little piece of our heart goes too.

We are not the same.

We lose sleep over every decision what pairings to make, which puppy goes to which family, which girl needs a break, which one’s ready for retirement.

We overthink everything because lives depend on it.

We spend hours studying pedigrees, structure, genetics, and coat types.

We watch every litter like a hawk making sure they’re nursing, thriving, socializing right on schedule.

We give up vacations, weekends, and sometimes sanity all for the sake of doing it right.

But people don’t see that part.

They see the price tag.

They see “breeder” and roll their eyes.

They don’t see the tears when a puppy doesn’t make it.

They don’t see the mama we comfort through labor.

They don’t see the vet bills that stack higher than the profit.

They don’t see the hours of cleaning, journaling, planning, and praying.

And then, after all that, we get told “I’d never buy from a breeder.”

I get it. You’ve seen the horror stories.

The mills. The greed. The trauma.

But please…

Don’t confuse the careless with the careful.

Don’t confuse the greedy with the grateful.

Don’t confuse the ones who mass-produce with the ones who nurture, study, and build with intention.

We are not the same.

We care about structure, temperament, health, and heart.

We raise dogs who can go into any home and change someone’s world.

We raise mamas who are loved family pets before anything else who get belly rubs, walks, and bedtime snuggles.

We raise litters that are handled, adored, and taught what love feels like before they ever go home.

We don’t just produce puppies.

We raise forever dogs.

So before you say, “I’d never buy from a breeder,”

remember not all breeders are the same.

And that’s exactly the problem.

Because the ones doing it right deserve to be seen.

Heard.

Respected.

And supported.

The ones doing it right are the reason you fell in love with your furbaby in the first place.

The reason your child has a best friend.

The reason a senior has companionship.

The reason a family has laughter again after loss.

We don’t breed dogs.

We build families.

We create joy.

We give hearts a reason to heal.

So maybe just maybe it’s time we change what the word “breeder” means again.

Do your homework, select wisely, ask the questions, expect thorough answers, live chats and to be qualified as a prospective home for OUR furbabies ❤️

The number of people looking for a female dapple and ready to go is crazy! 🤪

🚨 Please realize this is THE MOST REQUESTED puppy and scammers know it too! The holidays are approaching meaning that scammers are getting greedier!

📝 Finding an ethical breeder and joining a waitlist is usually the best route. Otherwise, always ask to FaceTime before sending a deposit. And yes, most breeders DO require a deposit!

SCAMMERS have become very slick! Be careful when buying a puppy and don’t get taken advantage of.

Here are some red flags I have found.

I’m a breeder and have purchased other puppies on Facebook as well to add to our herd. We’ve been breeding dachshund’s for five years and have had many experiences along the way.

Here are my notes, feel free to add other red flags in the comments.

🚩 Never buy based on one photo.
🚩 If the breeder will not call you and have a real on the phone conversation walk away.

🚩 Ask to FaceTime or video chat with the puppy if that’s an issue walk away.

🚩Legit breeders require a deposit just like SCAMMERS DO.

Every breeder has been ghosted after holding a puppy for months. The deposit is a sign of good faith and a contract that you’re not going to leave them hanging.

SCAMMERS WILL BE PERSISTENT AND ASK FOR A DEPOSIT MUTIPLE TIMES DURING A SHORT WINDOW- THEY MAKE IT SEEM VERY URGENT!!

🚩Dig into their page and see if you can find where they are from… a lot of accounts have been stolen and then used to make a page to sell puppies. If you look hard enough you will find people that look legit that shows they are in Indonesia or somewhere else.

🚩 Look at their business page for reviews and followers, most established breeders will have many post from several years as well as comments and reviews on this page. This isn’t fool proof but a great start.

🚩Most scams are long hair dapple girls. These are the most popular in the dachshund world! Not all but most will fit this criteria.

🚩If a breeder has all dapples and nothing else proceed with caution.

🚩 look at the background of all the photos. If there are multiple puppies around the same age but the background in the photos look completely different this could be an issue.

🚩If the photos are outside and it’s December but the grass is green and the trees still have leaves on them it’s probably a scam.

You can check our Facebook business page out if you would like.. it’s listed as Isalyn Dachshunds.

Good luck finding your next puppy!

We tried a new thing today! We introduced this litter to kibble for the first time, but we also introduced them to a kibble topper called Primal. It was a hit! Which is such a relief. The last few litters we’ve had have been picky about starting kibble. We’ve tried wet, dry, warm, cold, canned, fresh. They still turned their noses up at it. But not this time! Thank Primal Toppers! Isalyn Dachshunds is looking to add some new bloodlines!

We are being very picky! Any new lines we add must be PRA clear! American Kennel Club only.

We are looking to add long haired piebald females. Specifically a chocolate and cream female. Preferably EE. Open to other pies as well because… well, I’m a sucker for piebalds, lol.

Also looking for a red sable who carries for piebald, chocolate, and cream. Long haired.

Pictures (from Google) below don’t capture what we’re looking for exactly, but you get the idea.

If you’re a breeder, and you have something like this, please message me!

I’m in LOVE with these babies! Look at the curls in Maui’s fur, especially around his ears! And Dakota has such a soft sweet look about her. Dayton is a lover. Aspen’s new name is Kahlua. These babies are getting so big! They’ll be 5 weeks old tomorrow.

The girls are reserved but the boys are still looking for laps to snuggle!
