Pit bulls are so dangerousā€¦ dangerously lovable. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

Dangerously wiggly.
Dangerously happy.
Dangerously goofy.
Dangerously fast zoomies.
Dangerously floppy ears. šŸ˜‚

But seriouslyā€”this is why I want people to learn to look at the dog in front of them, rather than making assumptions based solely on breed.

Happy tails, loose bodies, play bows, relaxed faces and goofy zoomies are all ways dogs communicate that theyā€™re feeling good.

Pit bull behavior is dog behavior.

Learn the body language. Learn the individual. And maybe donā€™t underestimate the power of a floppy ear. šŸ˜‚

August has been so HOT, we are just trying not to melt over here. šŸ„µā˜€ļø While weā€™re doing our best to stay cool around here, weā€™re already looking ahead to a very busy fall!

September is shaping up to be a very busy month, and weā€™re so excited to welcome back so many familiar faces. ā¤ļø All of our September bookings are returning guests, and we truly love getting to see these dogs again and again!

We still have some availability after September 23rd, and weā€™re currently booking for October and November.

If you have a fearful dog, meeting new people shouldnā€™t mean forcing your dog to interact.

In this video, notice what the person meeting the dog is doing: donā€™t look, donā€™t touch, donā€™t talk. Those three simple rules take a LOT of pressure off a fearful dog and give them the space to decide what theyā€™re comfortable with.

Iā€™m also watching the dogā€™s body languageā€”slow movement, ears back, tail downā€”and when I see that he needs a break, I call him away.

I donā€™t wait for him to growl, snap, or bite before I give him space. I help him before he feels like he has to defend himself.

The goal isnā€™t to make your fearful dog love strangers.

The goal is to teach your dog that new people are safe and that you will listen when they need space.

If you have a fearful dog, save this for the next time someone new comes over. šŸ¾

Because I donā€™t believe a bite is the whole story.

A dog can have a bite history and still be loving, funny, goofy, affectionate, and deeply loved.

That doesnā€™t mean we ignore the bite. It means we look at the whole dogā€”and learn how to keep everyone safe.

Stop throwing away your Chewy boxes, your dog just got a free puzzle toy.

Step 1: Toss a few treats into an empty box
Step 2: Add crumpled packing paper/cardboard
Step 3: Let your dog sniff, dig & forage
Step 4: Supervise and remove cardboard when they start eating it

Stress doesnā€™t always look like barking, growling, or trying to escape. Dogs use body language to communicate when they are feeling stressed.

When your dog turns away but keeps watching, you may see the whites of their eyes.

A tense dog is a stressed dog.

If your dog hasnā€™t just woken up or they arenā€™t just about to fall asleep, they are probably telling you they are stressed

Is your dog suddenly ignoring your cues because they canā€™t be distracted from this smell? They are likely avoiding something stressful.

This is a release of tension, a good sign your dog was experiencing stress immediately before it.

No food around and your dog flicks his tongue out? This is a very common stress signal.
