💕 Best friends begin here! We love seeing the special bonds that start at Animal Humane Society. Besty met her perfect match here and shared this Happy Tail:

“I'd been looking for a while to add a member to my family but not just any member, an older one. One that might often get overlooked due to their age (everyone wants puppies or kittens) when I came across Duchess.

Her bio said she was 21 and her previous owner couldn't care for her anymore. When I went to visit her, she was in isolation due to a respiratory infection. She let me pet her but seemed sad. Duchess didn't get up to see me or nuzzle into my hand like a younger cat might have. But I already loved her! I promised her I'd be back the next day to take her home. She could not be a more perfect cat! Once she got home her personality blossomed. I had no idea she would be so playful outgoing! It's been two months, and I see something new from her almost every day. I would encourage anyone thinking about adding a member to their family to look at senior pet. They're pretty special....”

It can be hard to surrender a furry family member, but sometimes life changes mean we aren’t able to provide the kind of care a pet may need. When their living situation changed, Sam’s former caretakers knew bringing their 8-year-old hound mix to Animal Humane Society was the best thing they could do for their beloved pup.

Sam quickly established himself as a friendly, laid-back dog with a passion for naps. He loved to sniff around the play yard, especially on warm, sunny days. Though he was overall healthy, our vets noticed a slight sway in his hips — not uncommon in older dogs, but something worth including in his records. Noting an animal’s physical needs can help make sure they find a home they’ll be comfortable in, and that’s especially important for senior animals like Sam.

It wasn’t long before smiley Sam found a loving new family. 🌞 Now he can spend his summers soaking up the sun and napping to his heart’s content in a home suited to his age and preferences.

Meet Yuna, our Purina-Pet-of-the-Week! 🐾

Yuna is a friendly, playful 6-year-old feline who has been at Animal Humane Society for more than 50 days. She’s leash-trained, loves attention, and will happily keep you company with her sweet chatter during the day and snuggles at night.

She does best in a calm, quiet home. She prefers to be your one and only furry friend and would feel most comfortable in a home without young children. Yuna is also on a special gastrointestinal diet, so we recommend chatting with your vet before making changes.

Yuna, along with several other deserving animals, is ready for a fresh start, a cozy home, and someone to love!
