It's only 2 weeks till we find out if Fireball is pregnant with Ben puppies - we just cannot wait!! Zara's litter with Ben's son Gabriel has turned out so nicely - this one should be stellar also. There's something we need to chat about... it seems like we've talked about this before, but there's a lot of new folks checking in, and some of our past clients popping up from years past. Several folks have asked if we will give discounts for one reason or another, so here's an explanation of what we have replied. We absolutely understand that so many things cost more money now. We feel the pain like you do! However, we walk a very fine line as breeders. Our expenses have absolutely skyrocketed the last couple of years. Vet expenses, and feeding 9 German Shepherds along with lost wages, puppy supplies etc... it's economically devastating. Just take Zara for example.... she was bred by AI which involves an immense amount of time and money. There are stud fees, shipping fees, blood tests, ultrasounds. Penni drove Zara to the vet for progesterone tests 5 times, and to the repro vet (four hours of driving and 3-4 hours at the vet's office each time).
Some of the vet fees doubled this year. Altogether all this adds up to many thousands of dollars. (Keep in mind that sometimes that is all for nothing... like the last time Zara didn't take, or Fireball had one puppy). Penni also drove to Evanthia's home to help with the litter 2-3X a week for 6 weeks. And made freezers full of food for Zara and the pups. Evanthia and Penni cared for the pups round the clock, 24 hours a day. Evanthia sleeps next to them, they are never left out in a barn or kennel for the night. Then at six weeks the pups were split up, some going to Penni, some to me, and some stayed with Evanthia. This is part of what makes our puppies so wonderful... they get an incredible amount of early socialization. Traveling around, being in new situations, meeting different dogs. They are never left in a pack to entertain themselves. There is always at least 3 people raising them. All of this comes at a cost. We've had independent people evaluate the business and it turns out we make about one dollar an hour. So please understand when we say no, we cannot discount for past clients, for new clients, or whatever you ask for a discount for. We have struggled not to raise prices. There will always be a discount for active military, police, first responders and teachers. All of you are appreciated and we hope you understand. We love our Black Magic family.
