If you are heading out for the velvet hunt this week, be prepared to work fast in the heat!

If you plan on taking to the woods to hunt for the first archery weekend of the year, consider taking a cooler full of ice with you. Heat is your enemy. As soon as you drop a deer, you need to field dress it immediately then pack the cavity with ice. If you plan to have the deer mounted, get ice on the neck and head.

Hunting season is getting close! If you are considering doing a freezer clean out to make space for your 2025 deer harvest, please consider donating your old meat to my kid. He has moved up to racing 4 dog rig (last year he raced in the dog division) and he has been selected to race with the US team at Dryland Worlds this fall!

These hard working huskies love game meat along with beef and pork, and especially need organs and bone! They don't mind freezer burnt meat and are happy to pick up from your house.

It's getting close!

REWARD OFFERED FOR INFORMATION REGARDING
ELK POACHED ON NORTH CUMBERLAND WMA

CARYVILLE, Tenn.---A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the conviction of the person(s) responsible for an elk poached on North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area (NCWMA) in the Caryville area of Campbell County. The location is well known to locals as the Red Ash/Wheeler Gap area on the Royal Blue Unit of NCWMA.

In the afternoon hours of Saturday, February 22, 2025, a call was received that an elk carcass had been found on the Royal Blue Unit of NCWMA. Wildlife Officer Spencer Wilson and Wildlife Manager Brenden Marlow responded and assisted in collecting evidence. The officers state that multiple parts of the elk had been removed from the carcass and several pieces of evidence were collected. The incident remains under further investigation.

The Pine Mountain Long Beards Chapter of the NWTF, Campbell Outdoor Recreation Association, and the Tennessee Wildlife Federation are offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person(s) responsible for the elk’s death. We're hearing that processors are getting really full right now. If you are considering having your deer mounted, please stop by to see us before going to the processor. If they are backed up, they will not be able to cape out your hide until tomorrow or even Tuesday. Time is not your friend for keeping a hide in good shape.

I'll be happy to skin your deer today, and can even help you with quartering it out if you prefer to butcher your own at home. As always, call if you have any questions: 931-372-2784

Happy hunting!
