Run. Jump. Box. Ball. Zoom! In a sport where milliseconds can determine who wins and who loses, speed and accuracy are the names of the game. Flyball is an incredibly exciting, fast paced sport where teams of 4 dogs compete against other teams to see who comes out on top. Dogs leap over 4 hurdles, do a turn on a spring loaded box that releases the ball, go over the hurdles on the way back while carrying the ball, and finish up with a daring pass as the next dog on the team starts their run. Fastest team to complete the heat with no faults wins!
This sport is suitable for physically sound dogs who thrive off of being active and training sometimes complex skillsets. Dogs little or big, super speedy or a bit slower, any breed or mix, can participate with different divisions for teams of different speeds. Little dogs even have a special place in flyballerβs hearts as βheight dogsβ, small dogs whose height at the withers determines the jump height for the whole team.
Carmen and Emily have been training for years in the sport with their dogs Hawk and Rio under the guidance of their mentors City Road Runners. Their training has lead to them going from struggling beginners to fully fledged members of the team.
