It’s that time again….
It’s time again to give out tips on how to avoid getting scammed. Here are a few tips.
A real breeder will not come into your private messages and say they have pups, you will need to seek them out yourself.
A real breeder usually has a wait list and doesn’t always have available pups.
They will have photos of mom with pups and also of the same pup from birth to current.
They’ll be able to FaceTime you within the hour and show you mom and pups.
They allow phone calls and ask questions about your home and family.
They’ll accept PayPal or credit card for the deposit so that you have buyer protections. And cash at pickup.
They don’t mind you coming to their home for pickup and will freely give you the location. Shipping is not free.
Scammers want Walmart pay, Zelle, Venmo, cash app, Facebook pay, gift cards, money gram, or PayPal friends and family. Those all can’t be reversed once money is sent.
Also a real breeder page will have a page that is usually going back several years and usually a website with a unique name and pictures and videos of pups from birth. They’ll also have a reviews section and a high star rating.
Scam pages have names like “basset hound puppies for adoption ” or “cute puppies near me”. Also a real breeder will take photos of all pups with the same background while a scammer steals photos from google or different breeders so pups usually have different backgrounds.
Check their reviews section on Facebook, google, and Yelp.
Do a google image search of the puppy pictures.
Look them up on Ofa website, pawprints breeders, and other health testing sites. Google their business name. If a website look up the Whois data to see when it was purchased and what country.
Ask for their vet info and then google to make sure it’s legit. Call the vet and while they can’t give you any details, they can tell you if the breeder is real and a customer.
