📢 Holiday Closure Notice – Martin Luther King Jr. Day

We will be closed on Monday, January 19th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Our reception and technician staff will return on Tuesday, January 20th to assist with prescription refills and appointment scheduling. We will be open for appointments again on Thursday, January 22nd.

🐹 GI Stasis in Guinea Pigs: What You Need to Know 🩺

Gastrointestinal (GI) stasis is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition in guinea pigs. It occurs when the normal movement of the digestive tract slows down or stops completely. Because guinea pigs rely on constant gut motion to stay healthy, GI stasis requires prompt veterinary attention.

Common causes include:
• Inadequate fiber intake (not enough hay)
• Pain or illness
• Stress or environmental changes
• Dehydration
• Dental disease

Warning signs to watch for:
• Decreased or absent appetite
• Smaller, fewer, or no f***l pellets
• Lethargy or hiding behavior
• Weight loss
• Abdominal discomfort or bloating

🟢 Prevention is key!
Providing unlimited grass hay, fresh water, a balanced diet, and regular wellness exams can help reduce the risk of GI stasis.

🦟 Heartworm Disease: What Dog Owners Should Know ❤️🐶

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially life-threatening illness in dogs. It is caused by parasitic worms that live in the heart, lungs, and associated blood vessels, leading to long-term damage to these vital organs.

How is heartworm transmitted?
Heartworms are spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. When a mosquito bites an infected dog, it picks up microscopic heartworm larvae. That same mosquito can then transmit the larvae to another dog through a bite. Heartworm disease cannot be spread directly from dog to dog.

Once inside the body, the larvae mature into adult worms over several months, often without obvious symptoms early on. As the disease progresses, dogs may develop coughing, fatigue, difficulty breathing, weight loss, or heart failure.

🛡️ The good news? Heartworm disease is preventable. Monthly heartworm prevention and routine testing are the best ways to keep your dog protected year-round.

Ginger rounds out our Aussie-filled December! She came in for her puppy visit, including her Distemper and Lyme vaccines. Vaccines are an important way to help protect your pup as they grow, meet new friends, and explore fun new places.

Vaccines can feel a bit daunting, but our team is always happy to talk with you about which vaccines are right for your pet!

Sweet Nova came to see our team for her puppy visit! Like most Labs, she was thrilled to meet everyone in the hospital and made fast friends with the whole staff. She’s not picky about treats and did a wonderful job during her appointment!
