💔 Jewels Update from the Vet 💔

💎 Today was a difficult day for our sweet girl, Jewels.

💎 The veterinarian confirmed that Jewels has advanced heartworm disease, and her blood work is extremely concerning. While the large slice under her front leg looked like one of her most serious injuries when she arrived, it is actually one of the lesser concerns right now.

💎 Jewels has multiple abscesses and infected wounds on her head that need to be drained, but at this time she is not stable enough to undergo anesthesia.

💎 In addition, Jewels has enlarged lymph nodes throughout her entire body, raising concerns about the possibility of cancer. She is also experiencing a thick vaginal discharge, which has the veterinarian concerned about a possible pyometra (uterine infection). More testing and treatment will be needed before we have answers.

💎 The list of medical concerns seems overwhelming, but somehow Jewels remains the sweetest girl imaginable. She continues to wag her tail, soak up affection, and hand out kisses to everyone she meets. Even after everything she’s been through, she still trusts people.

💎 As you can imagine, her veterinary bill is already growing quickly. We paid a $250 deposit today, but this is only the beginning of what will likely be a lengthy and expensive medical journey. Our last medical boarding case resulted in a veterinary bill of more than $4,000, and Jewels may require extensive diagnostics, medications, treatment, and ongoing care before we know exactly what we’re facing.

❤️‍🩹 We are in dire need of donations.

❤️‍🩹 We simply cannot continue taking on critical cases like Jewels without your support. Every dollar donated goes directly toward helping dogs who have nowhere else to turn.

🙏 Please consider making a donation, no matter how small. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this post is just as important. The more people who see Jewels’ story, the better chance we have of raising the funds needed to give her the care she deserves.

♥️ Thank you for refusing to look away when a dog like Jewels needs help the most.

💎 Jewels Update 💎

🚘 Yesterday, sweet Jewels arrived safely at the vet where she was made comfortable and settled into her medical boarding. She will receive a full work-up so we can begin getting answers about what this precious girl needs. 💖

As we receive information from the veterinarian, we will be sure to keep all of Jewels’ fan club updated every step of the way! ☎️

Despite everything she has been through, Jewels continues to amaze us. This sweet 🍭 girl has the biggest heart and doesn’t know a stranger. She even gives kisses during blood draws and nail trims! ❤️

Now we need your help. Veterinary care is expensive, and every test, treatment, and day of boarding adds up quickly. We cannot provide the care that dogs like Jewels need without the support of our village. 🏥 💉 💊

🙏 Please consider making a donation toward Jewels’ veterinary expenses. No amount is too small, and every dollar helps us continue saying “yes” when dogs like Jewels need us most.

📞 Donations can be called directly into the veterinarian’s office or sent through any of our donation links. 💸

Thank you for helping us give Jewels the chance she deserves. We can’t do this without you. ❤️ 🐾 🐶

📣UPDATE: Sunday 4:30pm - Jewels arrived safely at South Robeson vet for her medical boarding. Once we get an update from the vet, we will update this post! Please donate, share, reach out if you’d like to foster Jewels when she’s ready to leave boarding. ♥️

🐾 Meet Jewels: From the Dirt Road to Safety! 🥰

After being spotted almost every day this past week, this sweet ~10-year-old senior girl is officially SAFE! We’ve named her Jewels. 💎

🏥 We had a medical boarding spot reserved for a puppy from Hemingway, but before the finder saw our messages, animal control arrived and took the puppy to the shelter (we’ve been unable to get any additional info but it is the weekend). That allowed us to save Jewels!

🌙 Tonight, she is safe, comfortable, has a full belly, and is already snoring (after making biscuits like a cat!).

👨🏻‍⚕️ Tomorrow at 8:00 AM, she heads to South Robeson Vet Clinic for medical boarding.

🩹Jewels has a long road ahead. These are some of the things we are worried about:
💊She is underweight, has a lot of swollen lymph nodes, a distended abdomen, a scar on her spine, and ni**le discharge.
💊She has a large open wound under her right front leg (pic included), cuts & puncture wounds on her head, a mass under her jaw (tooth abscess? bc her teeth are bad), and a mass near a mammary gland.
💊We think she has a floating rib, her back hips/feet point outward when walking sometimes, and she unfortunately tested positive for heartworms tonight.
💊She’ll need bloodwork to see if she's healthy enough to be spayed, unless she already is (comical!😂).

🍭Despite everything, Jewels is pure sweetness. Tonight, she briefly passed another dog 🐶 and was totally relaxed, curious, and friendly. She also noticed some cats 🐈‍⬛ in a catio and wanted to check them out, but quickly decided that treats were way more fun than felines! 🦴

🏡 Future Foster Needed! Please Share!

💉 Jewels will stay with the vet for the next 2–3 weeks to get her initial vaccines and boosters, along with whatever medical care she needs. After that, she will need a foster home or adopter! Please share Jewels with all your friends so we can find her the perfect place to heal.

😘 Thank you to everyone who donates, shares, fosters, adopts, transports, and cheers us on!

Because of you, Jewels will never spend another night alone in the woods on a dirt road. 🙌

Welcome to the good life, sweet girl! 💎

This is Dory 🐶

📸 The picture on the left is the photo the shelter shared after the finder discovered her abandoned on the side of the road in mid-April 2026. The picture on the right is Dory today, thriving! 🤩

👀 She’s gained weight. Her eyes are brighter. Her tail wags more. She looks happy, healthy, safe, and loved. She even had surgery to remove the mass growing on her back toe, and through it all, this sweet 13-year-old senior boxer has continued to show nothing but resilience and love. 💕

THIS is what rescue looks like!

🙋🏽‍♀️ It looks like someone stepping up to foster.
🏡 It looks like people opening their homes and hearts to homeless animals in need.
✅ It looks like rescues saying “yes” when a committed foster is in place.
🌎 It looks like teamwork, compassion, sleepless nights, vet visits, donations, transport, healing, patience, and hope.

Senior dogs like Dory are so often overlooked, but look at her now. Look at the difference love can make. ⭐️

📣 Huge shoutout to every foster who chooses to help animals in need, and every rescue willing to take on the responsibility to save a life when support is there. Dory’s transformation is proof that rescue changes everything. 🐾

🎓🐾 Jett is currently enrolled in his “How to Impress Future Adopters” era.

This handsome boy has been hard at work learning:
✨ leash manners
✨ stay
✨ place
✨ and how to use that big smart brain of his instead of his zoomies 24/7

Jett knows good boys get more adventures, more pup cups, more walks, and more couch privileges… so he’s putting in the work now to prepare for his future family. 💁‍♂️🐶

He’s smart, eager to learn, and absolutely thrives when given structure, training, and mental stimulation. Watching him figure things out and beam with pride when he gets it right is honestly the cutest thing ever.

Future adopters: your overachieving king is preparing for you. Please act accordingly. 👑🐾

This Memorial Day, Rescue Tails honors the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country. 🇺🇸❤️

As we spend time with family, friends, and our pets, we pause to reflect on the freedom their sacrifice made possible.

These two sweet rescue pups are still waiting for a freedom of their own, the chance to be part of a loving forever home. 🏡

Please consider adopting or sharing their story. 🙏

From all of us at Rescue Tails, we remember and give thanks. 🐾
