Still transporting private, isolated barns that are point to point with no layover. No horses that have been to any shows or events within the last 21 days ( Starting Nov 1) will be loaded or transported.
My trailer is being stripped, washed, and disinfected after every trip even though I know the horses that were on were clean and uninfected.
I encourage all my clients to do, and document, two to three temperature checks a day for the next 21 days
Also if you are scheduled to be on my truck in the next few weeks health papers must state from your vet that your horse has not been in an area, or in contact with any horse that has been in contact with a horse, vet, farrier, groom, trainer, or spectator from an infected area
The thing about this virus is that it spreads so quickly by shedding. So let me put this into perspective........it is not just you going and touching an infected horse and then going and touching another horse and transmitting it, it is even worse. You wake up in the morning and put you jacket on because it's cold. You walk into a barn and come in contact with an infected horse and it sheds on you. You then take your jacket off and throw it in the back seat of your truck as the day warms up. Two days later you put your jacket on at a different barn and come in contact with random horses that you now exposed to the shedded virus on your jacket from two days ago. Then you and the farrier and the dentist go to lunch and they climb into the backseat of your truck where your jacket has laid for the last couple days.......now the have the shedded virus on their clothes from your back seat which they in turn take to the next barns they go to after lunch.
This seems like a lot but it is exactly how this gets out of control quickly. It is not that you can not move your horses.......it is that if and when you do you need to make sure you are diligent about biosafety and cleanliness. Dissinfect your trailers, was your clothes spray you boots and shoes wash your hands. Do not unload or transport your horse any place where there have been know outbreaks or where horses that have been to infected areas have been
If you are going from one clean barn to another clean barn point to point with no layover or outside interaction then you are safe. It's putting yourself and your horses into any unsure environment that could be hazardous. Please be safe and keep the fur babies safe
