This Sunday morning I read Isaiah 7. Written some 700 years prior to the birth of Christ, the prophet, Isaiah foretells of his coming here in Chapter 7. A great chapter to refer to when in a frame of indecision. Here is the Stack:

โThe hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken
as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.โ
โBe careful, keep calm, and do not be afraid.โ
โIf you do not stand firm in your faith,
you will not stand at all.โ
โThe Lord Himself will give you a sign โ
Behold, the virgin will conceive and bear a son,
and will call Him Immanuel (God with us).โ

King Ahaz faces military crisis.
Enemies are forming alliances.
War feels inevitable.
Ahaz is terrified โ already planning political deals instead of trusting God.
Isaiah arrives and says, in essence:
โDo nothing stupid out of fear. God is still in this story.โ
He invites Ahaz to ask God for a sign โ reassurance.
Ahaz refuses โ pretending to be โhumble,โ
but really he just doesnโt want God involved.
God gives a sign anyway:
A child will be born โ Immanuel. God with us.
Meaning:
โYou are not abandoned. Stop acting like it.โ

Isaiah 7 is a mirror for moments when:
life feels unstable
โข circumstances are bigger than you
โข fear is whispering quick fixes
โข faith feels risky and patience feels impossible
Godโs words strike straight through it:
โKeep calm. Donโt fear. Stand firm.โ
And the warning lands:
โIf you donโt stand firm in faith โ you wonโt stand at all.โ
Not because God is punishing โ
but because fear-based decisions collapse under pressure.
Faith anchors you.
Fear makes you frantic.

Ahazโs mistake wasnโt panic.
It was refusing to trust while pretending to be spiritual.
He masked fear with religious language:
โI wonโt test the Lordโฆโ
But it wasnโt reverence โ
it was avoidance.
Neville would phrase it like this:
โFaith is not saying the words โ faith is assuming the reality of God-with-you.โ
Isaiah says the same through Immanuel:
โGod is present. Act like it.โ
