Early Alert Canines

Early Alert Canines We provide Diabetic Alert Dogs to people with insulin-dependent diabetes. Early Alert Canines is actively raising funds today!

Early Alert Canines is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the lives of insulin-dependent diabetics by training, placing and providing recertification services of Diabetic Alert Dogs. Early Alert Canines works with insulin-dependent diabetics of all ages and specializes in "skilled companion" dogs who work with families with young diabetic children. Diabetic Alert Dogs are tra

ined to notify their handlers that the diabetic is experiencing the biochemical changes that happen, undetected by the diabetic and current consumer technology, at the onset of blood sugar changes. The biochemical changes give off a scent that humans cannot recognize, but dogs, with their superior sense of smell, react to quickly. Early Alert Canines provide just that: an early warning which allows the diabetic or diabetic caretaker to avoid acutely dangerous low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Your donation can be made through our website, www.earlyalertcanines.org, or you can contact EAC through postal mail at:

Puppy training in the middle of temptation! 🐾 While service dogs can access places most pet dogs can’t (thanks to ADA laws), our puppies in training still visit spots like pet stores. Why?

Pet stores are filled with unique distractions — other animals, exciting noises, and so many yummy smells! These outings give our pups valuable opportunities to practice staying focused, calm, and ready to work, no matter what’s around them. Every outing helps prepare them to become confident, reliable partners for their future handlers. 💙

🐶💛 EAC Amy: From Service Dog in Training to Beloved Companion 💛🐶

We’re sending lots of love to EAC Amy, who has officially been career changed from our program. While service work wasn’t the right path for her, she’s already thriving in her new (and very familiar!) role—as a cherished pet back home with her original puppy raiser, who has officially adopted her. 🏡✨

Amy brought joy, spirit, and so much love to our Early Alert Canines family, and we’re grateful for the time she spent growing and learning with us. She may not be wearing a working vest, but she’ll always be part of the EAC story.

Happy trails, sweet Amy—you’ll always have a special place in our hearts. 💛🐾

The “settle” is one of a service dog’s most important skills. 🐾 Whether it’s tucking neatly under a table at a restaurant or curling up beside a chair, learning to settle in tight spaces keeps our dogs out of the way of the public while staying close to their handler. This skill not only ensures the dog is unobtrusive, but also positions them perfectly to perform life-saving tasks at a moment’s notice.

Training calm, confident settles is just one way we prepare our dogs to be the reliable partners their handlers need — wherever life takes them. 💙

Training happens everywhere — even at the salon! ✂️🐾 Our amazing volunteer puppy raisers and fosters bring dogs like EAC Thelma along on their daily outings, from grocery runs to coffee shops to, yes, haircuts! These real-world experiences teach our pups to stay calm, confident, and focused no matter where life takes them — skills they’ll need as future medical alert service dogs.

We’re so grateful for the incredible volunteers who help shape these dogs into the life-changing partners they’re meant to be. 💙

Distraction? What distraction? 🐾🐰 Our service dogs are trained to stay calm and focused in all kinds of environments — even when surrounded by candy aisles and giant pink bunnies!

Part of their job is learning to ignore the hustle and bustle around them so they can stay ready to support their handler when needed. 💙

Why do we mostly work with Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers? 🐾 These breeds have consistently proven to be some of the best service dog partners thanks to their:
-Resilience in a variety of environments
-Eagerness to please their handler
-Intelligence and trainability

Every dog in our program comes from lines carefully bred for generations specifically to be service dogs, ensuring they have the right temperament, health, and traits to succeed in this important work. It’s this combination of nature and nurture that helps us create the reliable, life-changing partnerships our clients depend on. 💙

Work hard, play hard! 🐾 When our service dogs are out of their official jackets, they get to do what every dog loves most — run, play, and just enjoy being a dog.

While they’re highly trained to perform life-saving tasks, it’s just as important that they have time to relax, have fun, and recharge. A happy, balanced dog makes for an even better partner. 💙

Training isn’t just about tasks — it’s about being well-rounded. 🐾 EAC Dewey spent the day at the mall, practicing his public access skills. At Early Alert Canines, we don’t just focus on teaching our service dogs how to alert — we make sure they’re confident, calm, and well-behaved in public and at home.

Because a great service dog isn’t just skilled — they’re a steady partner in every environment. 💙
