Bear Spot Farm and Foundation

Our Page is dedicated to people that love dressage and horses. Bear Spot Farm was established in the early 90's in Concord, MA by Jane Karol.

Our goal is to provide news and updates about our farm and our foundation and to share our love for horses and equine psychotherapy. The unique name comes from her two dogs, Bear and Spot, who had been with her for some time, though sadly have now passed. In the last 18 years, the farm has grown from a one barn establishment to a multiple-building, top quality boarding and training facility. Bear

Spot Foundation offers a unique combination of traditional psychotherapy with dressage riding and horse care. The Foundation's programs have successfully addressed the needs of clients with affective disorders (like depression), ADD/ADHD, anorexia, bulimia and concerns related to low self-esteem, separation and loss and anxiety and phobias. A 501(c) non-profit organization, we rely on donor funds to provide low-cost or no-cost therapy to children in need and to support the needs of our rescue horses.

A great weekend at HITS 🎉

💫 Jane & Via competed in the Grand Prix for a 68.4% and Grand Prix Special for a 69.6%. A wonderful first GPS for Via!
💫 Leah & Jazz got over a 68% in both the Young Rider Team and Individual tests, taking home 2 blue ribbons!
💫 Sophia & Magic also scored above 68 in both Young Riders, tying with Leah for 1st place in the Team test!
💫 Kenzie & Destar had success in the FEI Juniors, including debuting their freestyle for a 68.2%!
💫 Maureen & Nala showed in 3-3, each day better than the last and earning a second qualifying score for Regionals!
💫 Hope had 3 great days of schooling with Q, Pietje and Ollie!

Thank you to our entire show crew - Amanda, Ava, Alfredo, Josie Z, Leah, Sophia - for another seamless weekend away! Thank you Jane and Hope for the fabulous coaching and to our vets, farriers, and body workers for keeping our horses feeling their best 🌟

A great start to the 2025 summer season for Bear Spot Farm ☀️
 🔸 Jane and Via had an incredible weekend scoring over 68% both days in the Grand Prix - what a Grand Prix debut for this special mare!
🔸 McKenzie Dicks and Destar impressed in their first FEI Junior qualifier, earning 68.7% in the Team Test and 65.8% the Individual! 🔸 Martina Rozumberkova and Chevy had three strong rides in the Prix St. George’s, securing Martina her USDF Silver Medal! She also came second in the Jeanne W. Edwards Memorial Award, which recognizes the average scores of Adult Amateur in Friday & Saturday’s PSG!  🔸 Sophia Forsyth and Magic had a great weekend in the FEI Young Riders division with 65.8% in the Team, 68% in the Individual, and a fantastic 70.9% in their new freestyle! 🔸 Leah Drew and Jazz also had a strong weekend in the Young Riders, earning a 66.6% in the Team Test and 65.6% in the Individual!
🔸 Former BSF resident Bandito helped Karen Bressler earn her USDF Silver Medal this weekend with two great rides in the Prix Saint Georges! Congratulations to Karen and her trainer Brian Russell!

Huge thank you to our amazing team - Jane Karol and Hope Cooper for bringing out the best in every horse and rider, Amanda McNeil for being the mastermind that ensures smooth sailing at shows; Ava, Alfredo, Leah, and Sophia for their hard work keeping the horses shining & happy, and of course our incredible crew holding down the fort at home - we couldn’t do it without any of you 🩷✨

We were thrilled to once again host the USEF ‘L’ Judges Education Program this weekend, put on by the New England Dressage Association! Thank you to our talented demonstration riders and wonderful head judge, Kathy Rowse, who shared her expertise and compassion for both horse & rider with all participants and auditors 🌟
Thank you to NEDA for bringing this valuable program to our area and to everyone who made the day a success - these opportunities are not a small feat to bring to life!

12 weeks of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival ✅
After an exciting winter of showing, Hope Cooper, Jane Karol, and Gabriel Epstein and Manon Burban made sure the season went out with a bang!
✨Hope rode Ollie, owned by the Richard/Dicks family, to a 82%+ in the 6 Year Old test in the CDI, helping them secure a second overall finish for the Young Horse Challenge!
✨Jane and Via had a beautiful Intermediate 2 test scoring an amazing 75.7% for the win in the class!
✨ Gabi and Freiburg did their second Intermediate 2 together with huge improvements, earning them a 67%!
✨ Manon and JK’s Dressage Horses LLC’s gelding Oz scored their personal best at 3-1, also making great improvements from last show!

It has been a busy 3 months, but it is all worth it to watch our riders and their horses shine and continue to develop together. Thank you to our entire team both in Florida and Massachusetts that makes these winters possible ☀️🌴

Week 10!
We are very proud of our riders and their horses this past weekend at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival!
✨Jane and Via had their first show of the year in the International Ring
🥇Hope and Ollie, owned by the Dicks/Richard family, had a successful weekend in the CDI FEI 6 Year Olds
🎉 Leah and Jazz made their Young Rider CDI together and debuted their new freestyle!
🌟 Gabi and Freiburg did their first show of the season and made a big jump to a new level - Gabi’s first Intermediate 2!
🎊 Michelle and Heche also had their first show of the season and Michelle’s first Prix Saint Georges, earning a score towards her silver medal!
💫 Maureen and Nala get better and better, making many improvements in their 3-3 classes
🏆 Manon and Oz, owned by JKs Dressage Horses LLC, earned their highest scores in 3-1!

WOW did our riders impress us during the Adequan Global Dressage Festival Week 5!

🥉 Hope Cooper & Destar finished 3rd in the Lövsta Future Challenge Developing Grand Prix! 🌟 The Richard Family’s talented young stallion Ollie & Hope earned an incredible 83% in the 6-Year-Old Final! 🏆 Josie DeChaine & Mary Mansfield’s Chocolate finished top 3 finish in the I2 at their second CDI! 💫 Leah Drew & Jazz continue to gain confidence in the FEI Young Rider ring! 💪 McKenzie Dicks & Hope Cooper’s Flynn had fantastic results in the FEI Juniors, finishing just below 70% in the Individual! 📈Manon Burban & Oz, owned by JK’s Dressage Horses LLC, showed great improvement in their second show together at 3-1!

Welcome Week One 🎉
This past weekend, 7 horses that call Bear Spot home competed at the first Adequan Global Dressage Festival of the season! It was a weekend of experience, teamwork, and many firsts!
🌟 Destar did his first Grand Prix under the tactful riding of Hope and expert coaching of Christoph Koschel!
🌟Michelle Serbent’s Heche did two beautiful Prix Saint Georges with Hope! We can not wait to see Heche and Michelle in the ring together soon!
🌟McKenzie Dicks and Hope Cooper’s Flynn made their show debut by competing in Kenzie’s FEI Juniors class, which was rewarded with scores over 68%!
🌟Josie DeChaine aboard Mary Mansfield’s Chocolate received a personal best in the I2!
🌟Allie Shelleman and Otelo made their first show appearance together, doing two great 3-1 tests and helping Otelo gain confidence in the ring!
🌟 Leah Drew and Jazz competed in the FEI Young Rider Team and Individual test and worked on unlocking new gears in the ring!
🌟 Sophia Forsyth and Magic did their first Young Rider CDI of the year! They gained valuable experience in the big ring and we are excited to watch them continue to shine!
Many of these results also count as qualifying scores for Regionals later this year!
Thank you to our trainers, grooms, staff, owners, and every other support system we at Bear Spot Farm are lucky to have!

Congratulations to our very own Josie DeChaine and Sophia Forsyth for their outstanding participation in the USEF East Coast Training Series! Sophia and Magic had the privilege of training with the talented Olivia Lagoy Weltz in the U21 sessions, while Josie and Mary Mansfield’s Chocolate worked with Olympian Marcus Orlob for the U25. Thank you, Jane and Hope, for making them the best athletes they can be and preparing them for big opportunities like this!
These riders have shown immense amounts of dedication and passion for the sport and for their horses - we couldn’t be prouder 🏆✨
