🚨 Leptospirosis Alert for Pet Owners in Massachusetts 🚨
In the past 30 days, confirmed cases of leptospirosis have been reported in five different counties across Massachusetts. This serious bacterial disease can affect both dogs and humans, and is often spread through the urine of infected wildlife, especially in areas with standing water.
Counties with recent cases include:

Symptoms in dogs include fever, vomiting, lethargy, muscle tenderness, and increased thirst or urination. In severe cases, it can lead to kidney or liver failure.
Dogs that spend time outdoors, near water sources, or around wildlife are at higher risk.
It is zoonotic, meaning it can spread from animals to humans.

If your dog is showing any unusual symptoms, or if you’re unsure about their vaccination status, contact your vet immediately.
