Ellis Aquatics was established in March of 2012 as a way to give a financial break to those people wanting to enter or stay in the aquarium hobby. We started out with a single 20 gallon tank curing live rock, and nothing more. In under a year Ellis Aquatics upgraded and expanded to 400-500 pounds of cured live rock at any given time, a variety of fish, 100s of corals, and approaching 200 different

items in stock and 1000s more which can be ordered. Our hard work helping meet and exceed your expectations along with your support and appreciation has helped Ellis Aquatics expand repeatedly. We look forward to continuing to grow with you throughout this hobby, and continue to help you save more and more as we expand. Thank you for your support and we look forward to a very bright future with you. Ellis Aquatics….building good business relationships from honesty, and quality.

💡 PRO CARE TIP

Many hobbyists think the goal is more flow.

In reality, the goal is better flow.

On a natural reef, water doesn’t move in one direction all day. Waves, tides, and currents constantly change, creating random, turbulent water movement.

Your aquarium should try to mimic that as closely as possible.

🌊 Why random flow is beneficial:

✅ Delivers oxygen and nutrients to corals from multiple directions

✅ Helps carry away waste and mucus before it can accumulate

✅ Keeps detritus suspended so it can be removed by your filtration

✅ Encourages more natural coral movement and feeding responses

⚠️ Constant direct flow can cause problems such as:

• Tissue damage from continuous blasting

• Dead spots in other areas of the aquarium

• Uneven nutrient delivery

• Corals constantly leaning or growing in one direction

• Stress from nonstop flow hitting the same side of the colony

💡 A simple adjustment in pump placement can often make a huge difference.

Instead of pointing one powerful pump directly at your corals, try crossing flow from multiple wave makers or using alternating/random flow modes to create changing water movement throughout the aquarium.

Remember…

⭐ The goal isn’t maximum flow—it’s dynamic flow.

At Ellis Aquatics, we carry a wide variety of wave makers, return pumps, and other equipment to help you create healthier, more natural water movement for your reef. Whether you’re setting up a nano aquarium or a large SPS system, we’ll help you choose the right equipment for your tank—all at the LOWEST prices.

🐠 Healthy fish.
🪸 Healthy reef.
💙 Better results.

🧐 Did You Know?

Your fish may not sleep the way you expect.

Unlike humans, fish don’t close their eyes—and many have some pretty unusual sleeping habits!

Depending on the species, it’s completely normal for fish to:

🏖️ Bury themselves in the sand
Many wrasses disappear beneath the substrate every night and reappear the next morning.

🪨 Wedge themselves into rocks and crevices
Some fish tuck themselves into tight spaces where they feel safe while they rest.

🌊 Hover motionless in the water column
Species like cardinalfish often appear to “float” while sleeping.

🪸 Sleep in anemones or corals
Clownfish often remain nestled within their host anemone or even a favorite coral as they rest.

🌙 Change color while sleeping
Many reef fish become paler, darker, or develop camouflage patterns at night. This is completely normal and helps them blend into their surroundings while they rest.

⭐ Don’t panic if your fish looks different after lights out!

Many healthy fish:
✅ Become pale or change color
✅ Hide or disappear completely
✅ Sleep in unusual positions
✅ Become much less active

These are all normal behaviors for many species.

The next time you can’t find your wrasse or your foxface suddenly looks blotchy, take a deep breath—it may simply be bedtime!

If you’re ever unsure whether a behavior is normal or a sign of a problem, stop by Ellis Aquatics. We’re always happy to help explain what’s expected—and what deserves a closer look.
