Today is World Chocolate Day!
Jax is here to let you know the do's and dont's for chocolate around your pets.
Do's:
1. Keep chocolate out of reach
2. Educate your family and small children so they know the dangers of chocolate for pets
3. Know the signs of chocolate poisoning: Watch for symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, increased heart rate, and restlessness
4. Act quickly: If your pet eats chocolate, contact your vet immediately for proper treatment
5. Provide all information to vet: Be ready to tell them the type of chocolate, the amount ingested, and your pet's weight
Dont's:
1. Leave chocolate unattended: Never leave chocolate where pets can easily grab it, such as on coffee tables or countertops
2. Assume a small amount is harmless: Any amount of chocolate can be toxic, depning on the size and sensitivity of your pet.
3. Give home remedies: Do not try to induce vomiting or treat your pet without veterinary guidance
4. Ignore potentional symptoms: Even if your pet seems fine, monitor them closely for any signs of distress after they've eaten chocolate.
5. Forget about the baking chocolate: Baking chocolate and dark chocolate are more toxic than milk chocolate due to higher levels of theobromine.
