We're running low on one of our most important enrichment items, hard, durable, indestructible chew toys for our shelter dogs.

Every dog in our care receives a toy to help reduce stress, prevent boredom, and provide comfort while they wait for their forever home. These toys are more than just something to play withโ€”they're an important part of keeping our dogs happy, healthy, and mentally engaged.

We're looking for indestructible or heavy-duty chew toys, either new or gently used.

If you have a few tucked away at home that your dog no longer uses, or you'd like to purchase one to donate, we'd be incredibly grateful.

We know our community trusts Paws Humane Society to help animals in need, and we're grateful for that trust. However, we'd like to clear up a common misconception.

We are responsible for accepting stray animals found within Muscogee County, and we are already operating at or beyond capacity caring for the animals in our community.

We cannot accept stray animals found outside of Muscogee County.

Here's why:
โ€ข Lost pets are most likely to be reunited with their families where they went missing.
โ€ข Most owners look for a missing pet at their local animal controlโ€”not a shelter in another county.
โ€ข We are contracted to serve Muscogee County and do not have the authority or capacity to house stray animals from other jurisdictions.

Unfortunately, our staff has this conversation every week. While we understand people are trying to help, bringing an out-of-county animal to Paws is not something we can accommodate.

In the rare instances when an out-of-county animal is admitted, it is often because we were given incorrect information about where the animal was found. This makes it harder for that pet to be reunited with its family.

We also understand being turned away can be frustrating, but abandoning an animal at our facility is not the answer. It does not change which agency is responsible for that animal and can make it even harder for the owner to find their pet.

Our staff is not "being the bad guy." They are following the contracts and policies that allow us to serve Muscogee County while giving every lost pet the best chance of making it back home.

Thank you for understanding and for helping keep lost pets on the fastest path to their families.

Our Community Cat Program needs your help!

We're currently in need of donations of canned tuna in water and canned salmon in water to help support the community cats in our TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) program. These are used to safely bait our traps, making it possible for us to humanely catch cats so they can be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their outdoor homes.

Every can makes a difference and helps us continue reducing homeless cat populations in our community.
