Mary Ellen and Max made great progress in today's session. Their home will have twin humans arriving in March so they're taking their training seriously. Next week we work with Max's sibling, Marley, to ensure she is also well- behaved and she around the new babies.

Nice work, Mary Ellen!

Tina and Girly are getting ready to walk the neighborhood on the long leash during our next lesson. Tina told me today she never envisioned being able to take Girly on a nice walk due to her fears of noises and novel objects they encounter. Look for the video next week!

The sun came out giving us the perfect day to introduce a walk on the long leash through the neighborhood to Katie and her people. She was marvelous. We passed a couple of dogs along the way and she was able to focus on Robert rather than lose her mind and go after them.

Great work Robert and Janice. So nice to see Katie in a calm, relaxed state rather than the frantic, anxious girl you'd been living with!

Chloe and Jennifer had their first walk from the training studio and into the neighborhood. On the walk they learned how to work on a break from heel on the long leash so they can enjoy more freedom on their walks. This is the first step toward trusting her to be off leash and still be responsive to the recall. Mostly for emergencies should a leash accidentally be dropped.

Chloe was really enjoying taking in all the scents in the wet grass and still responding to the recall beautifully.

She's come so far in ignoring barking dogs and passing cars when just a couple of months ago she would lose her mind. Great work Jennifer!

Look who's back and getting bigger. Peter is a blast to work with, as is his person, Wendy.

Our Story

At The Developing Canine, we specialize in off leash reliability so you can be sure your dog will listen to you around your home and beyond the garden gate. We've been training animals since 1984 and can help you enjoy your dog to the fullest. Carolyn Weinbaum has been a professional animal trainer since 1984 when she began her career at the Miami Seaquarium training and presenting shows with Orcas, Pacific white-sided dolphins, California sea lions and Pacific harbor seals.

In 1989 Carolyn was asked to develop a training program with the New Orleans' Audubon Zoo’s five California sea lions. While in New Orleans, Carolyn expanded her training skills by training white rhinos, red wolves, and primates.

After obtaining her certification as a dog trainer in 1995 from a nationally recognized dog training school, Carolyn founded The Developing Canine Behavior and Training.
