It’s been a while since I added any geckos to my collection, but I have trouble saying no to a deal and it caught up with me… Tacocat here is one of four new arrivals to the reptile room this weekend! Depending on her growth, I expect her to join my breeding lineup in 2026 or 2027!

From Tabby x Zeus this year, the holdback choice is so difficult that I’ve been bringing both candidates to local reptile shows— I figure if one of them sells, it’ll be pretty easy to keep the other! Although I would be keeping them for two separate projects, I don’t want my lines to become too closely related and I know I’ll probably want to keep a half sibling from Morathi x Zeus as well since I’m letting Zeus go. The color developing on these kids is unreal!

First two pictured is Sentra (TBZS-1) and second two pictured is Maxima (TBZS-4).

I was starting to think that I just wouldn’t have an obvious holdback choice from H***y Tonk x Umbreon and was considering letting them all go to someone who can appreciate a good harlequin… but this one looks special to me and that dark headstamp is something I want to see more of in my projects moving forward!

Just over a month old, “Exclamation” is one of my favorite babies to hatch between Calanthe x Phantom of the Opera. I especially like the checkerboard brindle pattern in their dorsal!

Lucky in looks, not so lucky in love… Phantom of the Opera is a very eager breeder, but unfortunately my females who will tolerate him are few and far between. He’s also always been on the lanky side and so I hesitate to pair him with my bigger girls. I think his late season pairing is laying some of her first fertiles though, so I’m hoping to have some more of his babies hatching this winter!

They’re only a few weeks old and as crazy as cats, but I can’t stop looking at these two little hybrids!

First two pictures is the elder clutchmate, Magic, and the second two pictures are the younger clutchmate, Mana.

I don’t ever notice Gatsby firing up or down, he almost always seems to be the same color… but he is at least a perfect gentleman in the light box! I chose him for my hybrid project originally because he showed impressive dark coloration when he was younger, but as he grew into his adult colors I realized that his appearance wasn’t as important for the project as his personality, and his size compares perfectly to Volt’s as well. They’ve been cohabbed since August 2023 and I notice him guard the lay box after Volt is done laying eggs, just like I see chewies often do in a same species pairing!

I caught Volt fired up the other day and took the opportunity to get her in the light box for a little while! I chose her for my chahoua hybrid project for several reasons, including her size, her temperament, as well as her being a cappuccino. I think hybridizing will tell me quite a bit about how the gene presents itself over time with such a dramatic outcross, and I’m looking forward to watching the progression of the offspring!

Marlboro Red is the other lovely lady for my red empty back/phantom project— she had her first year this season and has eggs still to hatch from Knockout Ned! Most will be phantoms, but if their red bases are as nice as I was hoping for then I may replace Ned with a red empty back or a red lily male for future pairings to carry my project forward. I’ll still probably get lots of phantoms with a pairing like that, and I do love red phantoms (who doesn’t??), but ultimately my goal will be to produce clean red empty backs with thick bold pinstripes like you see on a lot of dark based geckos.

A few months ago I got this girl at a show and I didn’t know what to name her— my sister suggested Lava Girl and I think that fits nicely with her dark red base! I have high hopes of this young lady hitting breeding size for 2026 and rounding out my red empty back/phantom pinstripe project. I know spots aren’t for everyone, but I really like the one spot on her back that makes her pinstripe look crooked!

Zeus is a very interesting proven male who came to me from a less than ideal background a few years ago— his recovery was so remarkable and his appearance so interesting I had to keep him for a while and see what he can do! Now that I have two successful pairings worth of hatchlings and eggs from him, I’ve decided to let him go and choose a few holdbacks from his kids to carry the torch from here. He’s a very sweet and easy to handle male, and he was a great breeder as well! I think he’ll fit nicely into any collection or home. Peep his listing on Morphmarket!

Tetsutetsu’s potential as a breeder is being wasted with me! I absolutely love his pinstripe, but I keep choosing other males over him for the ladies that I have so I’ve been bringing him to shows. I finally got around to taking some fresh pictures of this gentleman, so now he can now be found on Morphmarket as well!
