Thinking a grain-free diet for your dog is healthy? Grain free dog foods tend to be high in peas and legumes. Studies are showing an increase in heart disease in otherwise healthy dogs (GSPs being one of the breeds) who are eating diets high in peas and legumes.

“Traditionally, there were only certain breeds that were affected by DCM [dilated cardiomyopathy]. While DCM is multifactorial, there is a genetic component in the breeds that classically had the disease. These include Dobermans, Great Danes, Boxers, Cocker Spaniels, and Standard and Giant Schnauzers. But now we’ve started to see diet-associated DCM over-represented in Pitbulls, German Shorthair Pointers, Mini Schnauzers, and French Bulldogs.”

We’re so excited that Dino, formerly known as Loki, found his furever home in Michigan. They have other GSPs in the family. Sarah had a little trouble saying goodbye but pulled it together for one more goodbye pic. She LOVED Dino…her favorite boy. 😊🐶❤️
