It's Fun Fact Friday! Did you know that dogs and cats have 3 eyelids. Their third eyelid is called a nictitating membrane and is located at the inner corner of each eye. It produced 50% of the tear production, protects the eye from getting scratch when running/playing/digging, and helps remove debris. Most of the time owners don't even notice it. If it becomes more visible, it could be a sign your pet isn't feeling well or has an eye issue, and an exam is recommended.

Fun Fact Friday! Most of our clients are aware of the increasing number of ticks in our area. Ticks carry a number of diseases that can affect both you and your pet. Did you know you can have a tick tested at The Ohio State University with Buckeye Tick Test?

In Ohio, there are six medically important tick species. And the risk of tick-borne diseases in people and pets is growing because of them.

Earlier this year, Ohio State launched the Buckeye Tick Test—a lab where trained experts test ticks for a variety tick-borne diseases (including Lyme disease) and send the results to your doctor or veterinarian.

Fun fact Friday ---Ever wonder how we "guesstimate" the age of kittens? We look at their teeth and see which baby/deciduous or adult teeth are present.

Did you know you can estimate a kitten’s age just by looking at their teeth?

Baby teeth appear by 2–3 weeks, start falling out around 14–16 weeks, and are fully replaced by adult teeth by about 6 months.

We use this in Shelter Medicine to help determine if kittens are old enough for certain vaccines and now you can use this chart to impress your friends with your kitten-age guessing skills!

It's Take Your Cat to the Vet Day! We recommend yearly wellness exams since cats are masters at hiding illnesses. These annual visits help tell if they are losing or gaining weight, developing dental disease or heart disease that would otherwise remain undetected. Call and us today to schedule your pet's wellness. 330-482-9755.

Fun Fact Friday is all about trimming cat nails. In theory the actual cat nail is easier to trim than a dog nail since the quick is easily visualized. The difficulty usually lies in finding the best hold/restraint to get that 4-paw pedicure completed before your furry friend runs out of patience.
You will more than likely need a cat holder to assist you. Wrapping your kitty in a towel and just pulling one leg out at a time can help keep everyone happy and safe. If all else fails, you can call and schedule a nail trim with one of our technicians. 330-492-9755
