Cool-season lawns in mid-Missouri thrive at heights of 3.5-4 inches, improving drought tolerance, root development and w**d suppression by shading the soil and reducing w**d germination.

We keep our blades sharp for clean cuts that reduce stress and improve photosynthesis, nutrient uptake, and water absorption—making lawns more resilient to heat and drought.

Moles!! These little pests have a high metabolism, and many people assume all they eat are white grubs. Controlling grubs in your lawn alone is generally not sufficient enough, because moles primarily eat earthworms and other insects that can remain abundant in the soil.

Moles are very territorial and can be active year-round, too, so you might see evidence of moles into the winter months if you don't start working on the problem now. At Atkins, we offer a monthly mole service to manage the population and keep damage of your lawn down to a minimum.

Got moles? Give us a call to price out our different service options.

If you're an Atkins Lawn App customer, your lawn has received what we call the L1 Early Spring application. This is the first step to encourage healthy growth as soil temps start heating up.

We use a source of fertility that produces good color without crazy, fast growth. Unless you recently seeded, this also includes the first dose of a crabgrass pre-emergent to help create a barrier at the soil surface to slow down those annual w**ds. If you also have bare spots in your lawn, this pre-emergent will help with other w**d prevention.

Our customers are one of the biggest reasons our team members love working here. We truly appreciate your business!

Looking for healthy growth of your cool season lawn? Spring fertilization improves color and vigor while fall feeding helps lawns recover from our tough summers plus improve turf density and root development. Nitrogen enhances color while Potassium and Phosphorus improve drought tolerance and root development, making grass more resilient.

The most effective form of w**d control is achieved by having a thick stand of grass where the canopy shades the soil thus preventing the germination of most annual w**ds. Effective w**d control, including crabgrass prevention, keep lawns dense by reducing competition for vital resources. Applying pre-emergent for annual w**ds in the spring over two treatments help reduce overall w**d pressure. Since this cannot prevent all w**ds, using post-emergent herbicides for existing w**ds may be required to control the undesirable w**ds.

Our 6-treatment program combines proper fertilization, crabgrass prevention, and w**d control for broadleaf, grassy, and nutsedge w**ds. Give us a call for more details!

We hope you have safely made it through winter and are excited for spring and the 2025 growing season.

We expect a good “green up” this spring which will hopefully carry through the rest of the season regardless of our odd-ball Missouri weather!

If your trees, shrubs or turf look like they suffered this winter, let us know so that we can assess and hopefully turn things around ASAP. We’re planning for a great season!!
