✨ Cat Grooming: Comb Cut & Sanitary Trim ✨
After going back and forth on whether to post this video, I decided to go ahead with it. Sanitary trims are not the most glamorous part of the job; however, a good portion of my medium/long-haired cat clients receive this service, this prevents extra gifts remaining on the cat's fur after litterbox visits.
For Merlin, the owner wanted him to have a sanitary trim and to have his paw pads trimmed up along with "floof" reduction. The idea was to keep Merlin's gorgeous coat, while making it easier to manage at home. I ended up taking a 1/2in off the overall coat, which helped slim him down and remove the unruly hair on his hindquarters and belly. For the paws, we took off the fur around the paw pads to keep Merlin from sliding around, then rounded them out to give them a finished look. Once his haircut was done, he went into the bath (sorry, I did not get video footage of this) where he happily laid in the tub for his soapy massage. After the bath, he sat patiently on the table for the blow dry portion, he even want the air from the dryer around his face/ears, much to my surprise. Overall, this is the process your cat would have for a comb cut or a sanitary trim.
As mentioned before, the bath and drying portion tend to be what owner's worry about most with the service. I strive to offer as low-stress of a situation possible for all cats in the salon: no dogs, alternate bathing methods, happy hoodies to mute the dryer sound. If a cat ever reaches a point to where they are too stressed, the service is stopped immediately and we make an action plan for future grooms.
