Real-life training builds real confidence.
Our teams practice navigating distractions, unexpected stimuli, and public environments — because calm, steady responses are essential to service dog work.

This is the training behind the trust.

Myth: All Service dogs are fully trained before being paired with a handler.
Truth: High-quality service dog work is built through training together.

At Victory Service Dogs, veterans and first responders train alongside their dogs — building skills, trust, and communication as a team. This shared training process strengthens the bond and ensures the dog’s work is tailored to the handler’s real-world needs.

Service dog training isn’t just about commands.
It’s about partnership, consistency, and connection.

🎄 A Christmas Message from Our CEO 🎄

At Christmas, we’re reminded that the most meaningful gifts aren’t found under the tree—they’re found in connection, purpose, and hope.

This year, I’ve had the privilege of watching veterans and first responders show up week after week, committing themselves to the hard work of training alongside their dogs.

To our veterans and first responders: thank you for your courage, commitment, and trust in this journey.
To our trainers, staff and volunteers: your patience, expertise, and heart make this work possible.
To our supporters and community: your belief in this mission allows us to continue showing up for those who have served.

Because of you, lives are being reclaimed, independence is being restored, and futures are being rewritten—one team at a time.

From all of us at Victory Service Dogs, and from my family to yours, I wish you peace, rest, and a very Merry Christmas.

With gratitude,
Steve Corey

🎉 Welcome to the VSD Pack, Puppies! 🎉

We’re excited to congratulate our newest (and youngest!) members of the VSD family. These pups have just completed their first major milestone by passing the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy course — a foundational step in their journey toward becoming future service dogs.

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program focuses on everything a young dog and handler need for a strong start. S.T.A.R. stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsible ownership, and over six weeks, puppies learn 20 essential behaviors and skills.

This early training prepares them to advance to Canine Good Citizen (CGC) work. For example, in S.T.A.R., puppies learn to walk on a leash in a straight line — while in CGC, that skill becomes more advanced, adding turns, stops, and focused teamwork with their handler.

These foundational skills are both practical and purposeful. Learning to tolerate grooming, handling, and simple wellness checks helps create confident, well-mannered pups who are ready for future training—and veterinarians love seeing them, too!

We’re so proud of these little troopers. One milestone down… many more exciting steps ahead. 🐶💙

👉 Follow along as they continue their journey toward service-dog training.

🎉 Big congratulations to ten of our dedicated teams! 🎉

These teams have successfully passed a major milestone on their journey toward becoming a Certified Service Animal team. Each team trained for and passed the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) , CGC-A, and Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGC-U) evaluations—three essential courses required in our certification process.

This achievement represents more than a test passed. It reflects months of consistency, trust-building, and commitment between handler and dog. With this milestone complete, these teams are one step closer to full service-dog certification and the independence that comes with it.

We’re incredibly proud of the hard work, perseverance, and progress shown by every team. Onward and upward. 🐾💙

Myth-Buster Monday

Myth: A service dog must wear a vest to be considered a service dog or to be allowed into public places.

Truth: Service dogs are not legally required to wear a vest, ID, or special gear.
What makes a dog a service dog is training and task work, not appearance.

Service dogs are trained to perform specific tasks that mitigate a disability — and those tasks are what grant public access, not a vest. While many teams choose to use vests to help signal “working dog,” it is always optional.

Understanding this helps reduce unnecessary questioning and protects the dignity of service dog teams navigating daily life.

With the holidays right around the corner, our trainers at Victory Service Dogs are sharing a few toy ideas that are great for active dogs and dogs in training.

Dogs in training — especially high-energy working dogs — need outlets that engage both their bodies and minds.

Toys like squeakers, puzzle games, durable chew toys, rope tug-of-war toys, KONGs, and PupSicles help channel energy in healthy ways while reinforcing focus, problem-solving, and appropriate play.

The right toys don’t just burn energy — they support enrichment, recovery, and balance for dogs learning important skills every day.

Because even working dogs need time to play. 🐾

Victory Service Dogs

Helping veterans live their life to the fullest, with increased independence, purpose, and dignity, with the help of a loving service companion.

For those who struggle with the effects of PTSD and other physical or psychological challenges, achieving a better quality of life can be difficult and frustrating.

Victory Service Dogs believes our veterans deserve to live their lives with a sense of independence and dignity. Research has consistently proven that the bond between humans and canines is very powerful. Service dogs can greatly improve the quality of everyday life for individuals with disabilities. They enable veterans to cope with symptoms of PTSD, achieve improved mobility, and provide a sense of well-being.

Victory Service Dogs stands apart from many other service dog organizations because we operate a client-based training program and strive to adopt shelter and rescue dogs.
