Animal Training is not linear. We work multiple spectrums. Our puppy classes and basic manners are fun, exciting, with games and movement!
We also work with rehabilitation cases, aggression cases, severe fearful cases. Those sessions look very different. We still use force free positive reinforcement approach but instead of being exciting and animated we are often just.... present.
For weeks we've been working with snow who is an extreme fear case. She was in the beginning just frozen in fear. She wouldn't eat, potty, or make a noise. With lots of work she's playing in the yard with other dogs, eating well and is going potty very well. She still has a way to go but is continuing to make progress. Tonight I spent time sitting in the yard while her friends got so much lovins. Snow walked around watching all her dog friends come be excited about belly scratches with me. I never looked at her or spoke to her. I loved on Dakota and Echo, who absolutely loved this exercise. Eventually miss snow came up behind me and smelled my hair. 🥰 I didn't acknowledge it. Now she's learning that she can approach me and there's ZERO expectations. Rehabilitation often looks like just being there.

On occasion we have a consultation that makes us question if we want to take them on. Either the consultation shows difficulty with family views or questioning if they'd actually follow through.
We can take your money all day long but, if you don't follow through? You won't see the amazing results we have had in previous cases.
Sometimes those consultations .... we give them a chance. Lately those iffy consultations have led to beautiful results!!
We know we can do amazing things for the animals. We can't force the humans to do the things.
Tonight the cheese lady is taking a bite of humility.
A consultation months ago that I didn't think would be followed through? Turned out to be one of the best students I've ever had!!!
Shame on me. Never judge a book right?

This makes us want to start the pet of the month again!!!!

Fosters!!!!
I love you so much but can we have a conversation?
You're foster needs decompression time!!! Multiple days. Stop throwing them in with the family! They've been through a lot. Fosters don't have to be integrated in the family. It's perfectly recommended to keep them separated. Crate and rotate is absolutely normal. All new members should be SLOWLY introduced. Small meet and greet sessions that are supervised and often on lead. It takes weeks for me to integrate a new dog to my home and I'm a professional! Low and slow wins the race.

We are safe from the fire and have begun to work on the new facility.
We are currently continuing training sessions where we come to you as we build. We opened our schedule again. Slots are available to come to you in Colorado Springs and surrounded areas, Pueblo and surrounding areas. We are no longer serving castle rock and that area.

Here's Ace our deaf friend who is joining our schedule for a refresher. The family went through a lot lately and would like help getting him back on track.

A good question to ask is how much experience your trainer has. A better question is what does their continuing education look like? A progressive trainer will continue to take on more education.
Do you want a doctor who has been doing the same thing for 20 years... or a doctor that has continued to learn more in the field?
Science evolves as we learn more.
Is your trainer doing continuing education?
We are!!!

We were really waiting to inform everyone that we moved. Unfortunately the fires are forcing us to make an unexpected announcement.
We recently moved to Pueblo West in efforts to expand our services. That is still the goal. Due to the Aspen acres fire we are putting everything on hold. Currently we are in the safe zone. Since this fire went from 70k to 80 k overnight we are getting concerned. It's been ZERO containment for a week. It's quickly approaching our " new" facility. Please keep us in thought and thank you so much to our clients for being patient with us during this time. As much as we want to work with you. We are trying to stay safe and help our neighbors do the same. We've been working with local rescues to help with evacuation efforts. All training sessions are being put on hold currently.

All 4 of my personal dogs crashed out by my feet. 🥰 we have successfully integrated all 4 dogs.
Storm (about 5yrs)
Dakota (about 3yr)
Echo (turns 1 in July)
Chopper ( 6mos old)
Successful integration is possible.
Slow interduction, establishing rules, positive reinforcement, and giving established dogs breaks lead to a successful pack!
If you are wanting to add another dog or are struggling with adding another dog give me a call!! 719-641-6556

As of late we are getting a lot of referrals from our local rescues. I , the cheese lady, would like to take time to give tips for these foster families. Let's set them up for success!!!
First and foremost your foster should have a period of time for quarantine and decompression. They should NOT be tossed in with your established house. Rule of 3. This isn't for everyone. It's a general tbt kinda thing. Any new animal should be separated for days. This is for quarantine of potential illness and a decompression time. It takes TIME to decompress. It takes weeks to learn your schedule. It takes MONTHS to get comfortable. Until this process your foster should NOT meet your established animals. You should have a "crate and rotate " system in place. Most of my fosters don't meet my dogs. There's no reason to. If you want to engage them, it should start by short meet and greet in a controlled environment. Your foster likely doesn't have much background information. They likely are super stressed. Your established animals deserve you being in control. Also! Your foster should learn CLEAR boundaries and rules from day ONE. I don't care how sad their story is. Establish clear rules and boundaries. This will HELP them get adopted. Don't let them jump on you. Don't let them check out the kitchen counter. Don't let them run the house and get on beds and couches. They need to learn rules. If you want to cuddle them? Get on their level. Sit on the floor. I could go on . Let's set our fosters up for success!!!

Hey guys. My heart is breaking for Hondo. This is a dog I spent weeks training and despite him making huge progress, the family has decided to surrender him after spending years in their home. They adopted another dog and they don't get along. Hondo needs a foster. I'm beyond full.
A foster that has no other animals in the home, can follow my training protocol, and is an experienced handler as he is fearful and reactive. Do I have anyone who can hold a Hondo?
