(425)

We are a 6 doctor practice in a large, state-of-the art facility, providing the best care possible for you and your furry family. At Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital, we believe in providing quality healthcare for your pet in a warm and welcoming environment. Our doctors routinely attend educational seminars in order to stay abreast of the latest medical treatments and technologies. We have a strong

belief in preventive care, offering customized vaccine protocols and multiple levels of disease detection panels at our patients’ annual visits. Our hospital also prides itself on having state-of-the-art equipment including a digital x-ray machine like those used in human medicine. The digital x-ray machine allows us to take high quality radiographs in seconds and gives our doctors images with better diagnostic quality. We also offer cold laser therapy to help treat pain and inflammation in a wide variety of conditions. This often allows us to decrease the amount of pain medications needed to control painful conditions like arthritis and intervertebral disk disease.

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Shaye 🌟

This week we’re excited to spotlight Shaye, one of our dedicated veterinary assistants at Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital! 🐾

Shaye has been part of the HLAH team for 3.5 years and is most often found assisting Dr. Harlin, helping ensure patients and clients receive attentive, compassionate care. In addition to her role as an assistant, Shaye also serves as our OSHA Officer, helping maintain a safe and healthy environment for both our team and patients.

One of Shaye’s favorite aspects of working at HLAH is the diversity in care we’re able to provide and the opportunities that come with it. She loves learning from our amazing team of veterinarians, which keeps every day interesting, rewarding, and full of growth. Shaye is also currently attending classes in a Veterinary Technician program, continuing to expand her knowledge and skills in the field.

At work, Shaye particularly enjoys building trust with anxious or aggressive dogs, helping make their visits as positive and stress-free as possible. Her patience and compassion help create better experiences for both pets and their owners.

Outside of work, Shaye is a proud Rottweiler mom to three and a cat mom to two, making her home just as lively as the clinic! She also enjoys trying new restaurants and traveling whenever she gets the chance.

Thank you, Shaye, for your dedication to patient care, your commitment to learning, and the compassion you bring to our hospital every day. We’re so lucky to have you as part of the HLAH team! 💙

What is a mast cell tumor? ⚠️🐾

A mast cell tumor (MCT) is a type of skin cancer in dogs that develops from mast cells, which are part of the immune system. These lumps can vary in size, may become red or inflamed, and sometimes seem to appear suddenly.

Because mast cell tumors are one of the most common skin cancers in dogs, early detection is incredibly important for successful treatment and better outcomes.

With Vista iQ, our veterinary team can quickly scan suspicious lumps and bumps to help assess cancer risk, allowing pets to get the care they need sooner.

📍 If you notice a new lump on your dog, don’t wait. Schedule an appointment and ask us about Vista iQ today. 💙

We are excited to announce that Ash is joining us as a new dog groomer in the salon! 💈 She has been grooming pets for 3 years now, and is excited to meet new clients and their furry friends. She loves animals so much, in fact, that she has 4 dogs and 12 rabbits at home! 🐰 In her free time, she enjoys being out in nature, reading, drawing, painting, and photography. She strives to help animals feel safe and well-cared for in her work, and we think she'll make a great addition to our staff. 💗

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Julia, CVT 🌟

This week we’re excited to spotlight Julia, one of our amazing Certified Veterinary Technicians and a valued member of our leadership team at Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital! 🐾

Julia has been part of the HLAH family for 9 years, and throughout that time, she has become an essential part of both our patient care team and our hospital leadership. In her role, she helps lead and support our veterinary assistants and kennel technicians, making sure the team runs smoothly and that every patient receives the highest level of care.

Most days, you’ll find Julia behind the scenes in surgery, monitoring anesthesia and helping our doctors care for patients during procedures. She also serves as one of our Shift Leads, helping guide the team through busy hospital days and ensuring everything stays on track.

One of Julia’s favorite parts about working at HLAH is the teamwork, especially when caring for emergency and critical patients. She loves how the team comes together during challenging cases to provide the best possible care. She also enjoys teaching and supporting new staff members, helping them grow and feel confident in their roles.

Outside of work, Julia enjoys cooking, camping, and spending time with her husband and two daughters. Her home is also full of energy thanks to her two crazy dogs, Sawyer and Huck Finn, who definitely keep life entertaining!

Now for the sad news... (for us!) Julia has decided to take the next step in her career and accept a position at a new vet hospital. We are so excited for her and know she will shine brightly wherever she goes, but we will miss her dearly! If your pet has had a surgery at our clinic, odds are good that Julia was there for it - getting them ready, monitoring anesthesia during the procedure, and helping them recover afterward. She has a huge heart and we are so grateful she chose to be part of the Horseshoe staff for 9 great years. 🥰

Thank you, Julia, for your dedication, leadership, and the compassion you bring to our patients, clients, and team every single day. We’ve been so lucky to have you as part of the HLAH family! 💙

Everybody gets nervous at the doctor sometimes! Our caring team of techs and assistants are always happy to offer extra TLC to nervous patients. 🥰

As you can see, Greer decided she needed some cuddles to make it through her appointment - or maybe she was just hoping that we'd forget about drawing her blood if she turned on the charm. 😉 Either way, CVT Julia was happy to oblige! (She didn't manage to convince us against bloodwork, though. That's too important to skip, Greer!)

🐾🏷️ June is National Microchipping Month! 🏷️🐾

A microchip is a small step that can make a huge difference in helping lost pets find their way home. ❤️

Every year, countless pets go missing, and collars or tags can fall off or become unreadable. A microchip provides a permanent form of identification that can help shelters and veterinary clinics quickly reconnect pets with their families.

📌 Important reminders about microchips:
✔️ Keep your contact information updated
✔️ Make sure your pet’s chip is registered
✔️ Ask your veterinarian to scan the chip at annual visits to ensure it’s working properly

Microchips are quick to place, safe, and about the size of a grain of rice. While they are not GPS trackers, they greatly increase the chances of a happy reunion if your pet ever becomes lost.

Whether your pet is an indoor couch potato or an outdoor adventurer, accidents can happen, doors get left open, storms scare pets, and curious animals can wander farther than expected.

If your pet is not microchipped yet, June is the perfect time to learn more about this simple way to protect them. 🐶🐱

Because every pet deserves the best chance of finding their way back home. 🏡💕

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Melanie 🌟

This week we’re excited to spotlight Melanie, one of our wonderful team members who has been part of the Horseshoe Lake Animal Hospital family for 6 years! 🐾

One of Melanie’s favorite parts about working at HLAH is seeing her favorite patients come in and being able to help take care of them. She also loves the occasional surprise of getting to work with exotic pets when they come through our doors, making every day a little more exciting and unique.

Melanie has a big love for animals both inside and outside of work. At home, she cares for quite the crew—3 dogs, 2 cats, a tarantula, fish, Thai micro crabs, and 3 different species of shrimp! Safe to say, she definitely has a passion for all kinds of creatures.

When she’s not at the clinic, Melanie enjoys video games, making art, and spending time with her exotic pets. She brings creativity, compassion, and a fun personality to the team every day.

And yes… in her employee photo, that really is an armadillo 😂

Thank you, Melanie, for your dedication, your love for animals of all kinds, and the positivity you bring to HLAH every day. We’re so lucky to have you on our team! 💙

We have some very exciting news to share! Dr. Davidson will soon be starting her maternity leave as she prepares to welcome twin boys! 💙💙

She is currently planning to begin her leave in July and looks forward to returning to the clinic after spending time at home with her growing family. While we will certainly miss her around the clinic during her time away, we are so excited for her and this special season ahead.

At this time, we do not have an official last day scheduled for Dr. Davidson, as twin pregnancies can sometimes be unpredictable and plans may need to change along the way. We truly appreciate everyone’s understanding and flexibility as we support her during this exciting time.

Please join us in wishing Dr. Davidson a healthy and happy remainder of her pregnancy and lots of joy as she gets ready to welcome her boys into the world!
